Beautiful, I genuinely can’t see too many pics of this bass. I like white on white as a finish but IMO it takes a bit of chrome to make it really pop, this is perfect. A white on white T-bird is also great, really makes the most of the body shape.

Neat hobby! So many great works of art out there to collect. I still have a couple of meerschaum pipes that both my father and father in law smoked during the war. Both pipes were from the early 1940's. My dad was stationed in the Pacific theater during WWII with the US Navy, and my father in law was in the British Royal Navy in the Atlantic. Both pipes have a lot of sentimental value to me.

I've seen some beautifully carved wood pipes. I'd imagine there could be some very steep asking prices for works from master craftsmen. If you have a favorite pipe in your collection you should post it along with your favorite Thunderbird as part of a TBird and other hobbies photo.

Well, we’re about to move, so most of my pipes are packed up. I’ll try to remember to do that sometime, but it might be a couple of months before I get them all settled in the new place. We’re still three weeks away from the move, and I imagine the pipes will be a lower priority to unpack. Although, now that I think about it, I do have photos from a few years ago when I was asked to display my Ashton collection at the Chicago show.

My dad smoked a pipe for years; had a few interesting ones. Gave them all away when my mom developed COPD.

Good eye! That's a nice one. Bill Taylor started as an apprentice with Dunhill (a famous English pipe, tobacco, cigar, lighter, etc company dating back to the early 1900s) in 1959 when he was 15. By the early '80s he was the manager of their pipe production, then left to start his own company in '83. I have at least one from every year he made them from '83 (when he only made 31 pipes) through his death in '09. There's a guy still making them, who also worked for Dunhill, but I don't have any of the new ones. Bill and I were pretty good friends (he gave me a couple of pipes), so it's hard to think about someone else making them. Interestingly, Bill was a Mod in the early '60s. He showed me pictures of him and his friends all kitted out on their GS scooters, looking like the cover of "Quadrophenia". He was also (not surprisingly for a mod) a HUGE Who fan and used to see them regularly in their early days at the Marquee Club. He never mentioned it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had known them somewhat. He was personal friends with Steve Marriott from The Small Faces, as well as Jeremy Brett who played the best Sherlock Holmes ever. Bill was a fun guy. Little (maybe 5'6" and 130 pounds or so), but he could put away some beer!

Very cool. I'm old enough to remember when pipes were cool, but fading out. Always loved the smell of pipe tobacco.

speaking of P basses....I'm in love....my favorite P combination ever.........casually wrote to the "Custom Shop" yesterday for EXACTLY the same thing and they quoted me 4040.00 and a 10 week lead time..

Very cool.

I just sold my only fretless (Pedulla Pentabuzz) because I just never play it anymore. So few songs I play require a fretless that it rarely ever came out of its hardcase. And consequently, my fretless playing skills were severely lacking. It was a phenomenal and somewhat unique sounding fretless.

I'm sure the P Bass you're looking at would sound a bit more traditional, sure looks nice. Would you go with the black one, or did you have another finish in mind?
