Thunderbird Club

I hear you. I meant thinner front to back. But I'm sure you're so used to the NR neck that a thinner R might feel TOO thin.
I've been considering getting a VP after all the raves about them here. Maybe if the live music biz ever gets going again. Besides, I really need to snap another head stock.

Considering favored pu on a two pu bass - I approach each situation it will be used in independently. The way a bass sounds recorded and/or live in a particular space will dictate adjusting/dialing in and how whichever particular bass is chosen. As no two basses will sound the same with the same adjustments/settings - the recording situation/room/engineer, the live space/situation (packed room, open space, low/high ceiling etc) will dictate (for me) how to achieve the sound/tone I want on the bass I chose to play. Needless to say, the amp and signal-chain chosen also adds adjustment capability. Personally I like both hum-buckers & single-coils, and both dual pu basses and single pu basses. For what it's worth, I also like both maple and rosewood/ebony fb necks, and walnut, mahogany and wedge necks. I also like both wide-nut necks and narrow nut necks. Add to that any fret number (20/22/24) and a few different neck profiles. Same with body woods - I like alder, mahogany, ash, and maple. And scale - 30"/32" and 34" are all good.

When I only had my '63 II (over 40 years ago), I was pretty bias against playing any other bass. (plus I couldn't afford another bass anyway!) After years of playing/owning all sorts of basses - it has allowed me to be open to more than one-way. Nearly impossible to 'rate' them numerically - and don't feel a need to anyway. Each different bass I play inspires me to play differently. Keeps me fresh and engaged as a player.
Amen.

It sounds a little like "Riders On the Storm" but it's probably something else.

Close! Blood and Roses by The Smithereens........If you've never listened to them, you're missing a great band. Their bassist is simply perfect, serves the song in the best creative, yet soldierly way.

You are such an inspiration when it comes to getting off my butt and diving into some of the bass projects I've been kicking around in my head for quite some time. Please keep the progress photos coming, they are beginning to motivate me into getting off the couch.

I should have some more motivational imagery tomorrow! :smug:

My two Vol pots should show up tomorrow, as well as the pickup rings & covers (and screws! :hyper: ).
Once I get all that sorted, it'll be time to make a decision about the pickguard & trc :nailbiting:

Bias's should be relegated to unacceptable shortfalls in instrument design, playability and/or sound produced. I was listening to this song by a current fave band of mine. The bass part is nearly invisible, but w/o it it would be sorely missed. What kind of bass? What V/T control levels? Bridge or neck pu favoring? Amp settings? Who cares? The bass player cares.

Love the Smithereens - great bass tone on this song. :bassist: appears to be a Ric.

Getting settled into our new house. I have some of my basses here, and some at a friend’s house in our old town. But I have all my amps and cabinets! And I just installed covers on my Epiphone VP so it’s kind of like the ‘64 I could have bought in ‘82 for $400... D’oh!!!!!!

Kinda like the 67 NR I bought in 73 for $250(w OHSC)?

I've always liked Cheap Trick. Robin's almost gentle vocals on top of the insanity of Tom, Bun E. and Rick. Great combination. My favorite? "Ain't That A Shame"

Cheap Trick was the archetypal '80s band in so many ways.

The guitar lead at 1:52 reminds me of this -
