Thunderbird Club

When I was restoring my second '76 I really needed everything, a new bridge and posts to replace a crappy Allparts one - I went to an authorized Gibson repair shop (Mike Lull, they were doing all the other work as well) and had them plead my case directly to Gibson, it took time but I did get the parts.
I would suggest you post something here too as several of our members have replaced 3 Points with Hipshots and may consider selling their unused bridges.

Alright as promised here is a picture of my new Thunderbird bass (and my current rig and also nevermind that Marshall practice guitar amp). I have only been able to spend about 30 minutes with her since she arrived on Monday due to being busy with other things, however within just that small amount of time I was and am very impressed. I love the feel of it and the tones I was getting while messing with the bass and my amp. It pretty safe to say I am a believer in rocking the T-Bird now!

Your strings are strung the "wrong" way around the tuners - why is that?

Speaking of parts...

I'm about to mod two of my Epi birds with chrome hardware - I already have 2 sets of chrome pickup covers and pickup rings, bought from Invalid Link Removed in Germany.
These covers are really shallow compared to the Epi pickups, so the pickups will sit pretty low in regards to the strings. I've noticed on old T-birds and newer repros there seems to be some sort of black spacer underneath the pickup rings - Where can I get those, and in case I have to make them myself, then what material are they made of and what are the height of them (assuming the bridge pickup spacer is higher than the neck space)?

I have two complete Gibson 3 point bridges for sale in the classifieds.

Anyone know where I can source chrome bridge posts?
All the ones on ebay are aftermarket and for Epiphone by the looks of it.. About to take delivery of a NOS Ebony thunderbird, has the black hardware though.. and I HATE black hardware! I have a spare Gibson bridge in chrome but not the side or front posts (from an old SG bass I had, some pinhead chewed the hell out of them trying to adjust the bridge with a flat head screwdriver while under tension..)

Hey, Mark, did you see the minty, black Studio 5, I posted up from eBay a few posts back?

Yep! Thanks, I think he's a bit high on price tho. I should post on Gibson's FB suggesting that they re-issue those!

Hi Mark!

Now that you are online - Did you see my post regarding pickup ring spacers above? I believe you did something similar to your metallic red Fenderbird - Would you mind to elaborate?

Michael,
Ah yes, I've used them on all my basses with Lull pickups - the '60s era pups are much shallower than the contemporary ones so these help hide the sides.
There's not likely any crossover between Mike's parts (or Thunderbucker Ranch) and yours. The ones I have from Mike are made from pickgard material but black styrene would certainly substitute nicely.

Sorry to be slow getting back - I've actually had to work at my job today ;)

I thought your job was ruling your TB minions :bassist:

:roflmao: Hopefully with grace and kindness - you guys are all pretty cool!

It must be well over 100 in the Tri Cities today!

It just doesn't pay well, so the Queen has to work :D

He probably didn't know what he was doing... Was it bought 2nd hand?
More in likely and yeah I did buy it from a Guitar Center store if that is what you mean. Which actually surprises me that a person who worked there strung it wrong but again maybe not that surprising...or perhaps it was originally sold by the previous owner that way and they just looked it over briefly and tried it out to make sure it at least worked and then hung it on the rack with a sale tag on it. Who knows but it is a great bass!

I did see them on the Thunderbucker Ranch website after my post, but gather I would have to make them myself - Are the neck and bridge spacer of different hight, or are they the same and would you happen to know what height they are?
