...every fridge should have one...:D

Healthy competition is good for kids. Studies have shown that kids (especially boys) fall behind when they aren't competing.
Not to mention that kid who was way better than everyone should really be getting praise for their work and it also gives the other kids something to strive for.
The trick is to make sure that the kids who don't "win" feel encouraged and want to continue to improve.
I agree that evaluation and testing is an important part of education. And I get that competition can be a part of that.
I just don’t see value in talent competions.

I guess it depends on how it's all handled. Judged competitions can be flawed because the judges will have their own biases and preferences one way or the other.

Playing around with options, looks better already ;) View attachment 4028471
Mine was already butchered when I acquired it back in 1989 (it had already been hogged out and EMG P/Js stuck in it), so I sort of did my own thing....

Always enjoy seeing another one of these in the wild.

I wish I could find a set of the original pickups.

I picked this up cheap on market place, not exactly Thunderbird related but it certainly is a distant cousin, '84-'86 Ibanez DB700...
Just to help out with this (assuming it still has the stock neck plate), the serial number format is -
M (singe digit for month of production) YY (two digits for year) XXXX (production number).
Mine is an '85.

Love yours! Parts for these are scarce! I count myself very lucky, scored a original bridge pickup of ebay, should be here in a few days I am seriously considering a Dimarzio XN2 for the neck position.

Yeah, mine has been with me a long time. I bought it back in 1989 out of a guy's trunk with the OHSC which I still have. It had been modified with a set of EMGs and had been sprayed with that rock texture paint, which was literally just falling off. So the guy had taken a razor blade and scraped it all back off, leaving scratches all over the body. I played it back in my gigging days as my daily driver. At some point one of the pickup wires fell off and then the pot for the other pickup broke, so it wouldn't make sound any more. After it sat in my closet for well over a decade I finally decided to give it a make over a couple years ago and since I could not find any parts for it I just went with a brand new set of EMG P/Js like it had and then did the repaint. this was literally my very first swirl paint attempt and I think it came out great.

Looking back on it, I probably should have put a soapbar or humbucker of some sort in that neck slot.
Luckily the headstock is still original, I really didn't want to have to reproduce that logo and such. I still need to restore the original bridge, it's looking rough.

I'll be looking forward to seeing yours resurrected as well!

So refreshing to see kids picking up bass playing and looking like they're having fun doing so.

But it just goes to show ya - no matter how good you are there's always somebody better.

I keep telling myself this every time I see a happy go lucky bouncy giddy kid with a mile wide smile casually pull off a a bass line that I struggle to get 80% correct. Kudos to the young girl. I hope she continues on the bass path for life and applies her exceptional skill to the professional musical scene and drawing more youth in with her.
Sure, take the high road! :D

Clips like that make me wish I had someone in my life to get me playing early on. I had an influence but it was late High School years.

Thunderbird sighting....

Michael played a Lull for 3, maybe 4 songs when I saw them a couple of years ago. He played an old Epi Embassy the rest of the time. The mix was so loud and awful that I couldn't tell one from another. But they should sound mostly the same. He was blasting out through Ashdown tube heads and cabs. I could tell he was driving the crap out of them.
