Never heard that before; me likey. Off-topic comment, but I really enjoy older rock simply for the fact that it is not auto-tuned, overproduced, and polished to a glimmer. Maybe its a sign that I am well into middle-age but I often find myself thinking--all this modern music sounds like garbage. I mean, I can dig some newer bands like the BFS link I posted, or even "real new" bands Royal Blood, but even they rely on a smorgasbord of effects and post-prod over-dubbing. I like my rock/punk to be dirty, gritty, slightly out of tune, and sounding like it is being played in the cellar of the local tavern reeking of stale beer. [ok; rant over]

Totally agree with with the over production aspect of today's "rock"(?).

If you don't like quantized & autotuned music, don't consume it. That is buy no CDs (or whatever the current tech is), don't stream it, don't buy merch from the band don't go to the shows. If the record companies (eventually) figure out that quantized, autotuned music doesn't sell, it will stop.

Unfortunately, you are up against the hoards of teenage girls who want the latest boy band or pop tart and the horny teenage boys who will listen to what the girls listen to if they think it will get them somewhere. As well as those who treat music as sonic wallpaper.

I'm with Rick Beato - it is all terrible. It loses the human feel.

LOL - The great thing about David Lynch is that as long as you're watching his videos you don't need to do drugs, he's already done them for you and packaged the results in a neat little music video.

Seriously, he does have a destinctive style, kind of a Mazzy Star on acid sound. I like it but it can get pretty dark at times.

interesting opinion, one that we don’t share however......intentional auto tune and quantization are not inherent in Nyquist’s theorem or media delivery method....

Kudos Kara! It's coming along very nicely. Love the tuners, it's a shame all that beautiful gearwork is on the back of the bass. So how's she sounding now that you've got her all strung up?

Rant heard and echoed!
Anything in auto tune sounds like the chipmunks to me, hate that sound. Overproduction is just as bad. I like polished as much as I like raw bands but when it approaches or exceeds the level of glam rock a little bit goes a long way. IIRC a lot of the Grunge movement came about as a rebuke of overproduction, I think punk rock may have had a similar catalyst. So there's hope, maybe someday soon we'll see a resurgence of garage bands putting out raw hard hitting music.

I'm in agreement with you guys about most of the newer music. :thumbsup:
It's part of the reason why I love The Pretty Reckless & The Warning so much.

Relatedly Taylor Momsen from TPR recently posted another acoustic vid, this one of their latest release, '25'. Comparing this & the original (and the previous one they released this way), to me shows how little she over produces, at least her voice for the main vocals.
It varies with the instruments somewhat, but their live performances (that I've seen) are pretty spot on with the recorded versions.

This is certainly true. It stems from his unique vision as a serious contemporary surrealist carrying the torch from Salvador Dali, Luis Bunuel, Jean Cocteau etc into the 21st century. His music is woven into that in a sometimes light-hearted way. (as is the vid posted - light/fun in a twisted, disturbing sort of way) There's another song/vid on YouTube (Good Day Today) that is very disturbing - not light at all. (goes both ways) I've heard his lectures/talks and he creates the darkness to enhance/focus on the 'light/lightness' in the world. Yin Yang - a very artist sensibility. I personally feel he is one of the most important artist living today. Not sure he does drugs from what I know - he's a spokesman for TM, smokes cigarettes and drinks coffee.
