Here it is here being sold for an ask of $9,750.00 and according to the stat sheets, 1 of 6 made that year in a natural finish.

That seems quite high for a '79, I know they didn't make a lot of them and they've been going up over the past few years but, yeah, no.

Wait a minute. Wasn't that where the Hitchcock movie "The Birds", was taking place.
Better watch out for those pesky Sea Gulls and Crows.

This is one creepy song......

"The butter came out a grizzle-y-grey. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, Now, now, now! The cheese took legs and ran away! Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee, knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, willoby-wallaby, Now, now, now!

She let the critter get away. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee, knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, willoby-wallaby, Now, now, now!

I asked my wife to wash the floor. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, Now, now, now! She gave me my hat and she showed me the door! Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee, knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, Now, now, now!

I married my wife in the month of June. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, Now, now, now!
I brought her off by the light of the moon. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee, knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, willoby-wallaby, Now, now, now!

She combed her hair but once a year. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee, knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, willoby-wallaby, Now, now, now!"

File under: Where have you been all my life? I've mentioned my fondness for the LOXX strap locks. And also for the MONO Doolittle straps. The Doolittle has amazing thick rubber ends to them that I think are nicer than any leather end. I have one at home and one I keep in my soft case so I never risk forgetting to pack my strap and not being able to use one because of the proprietary strap pins. Ask me how I know. I've had to go to my friend's place and use his Dremel tool to widen the opening on the strap ends to fit the locks. So I needed new strap pins for the RNR and all I could find available was these LOXX XL, for thicker strap ends. I forgot I had another Doolittle in a box and have been using it with the RNR until the strap locks came, which was today. Sure enough, the XL has a longer threaded post that fits through the Doolittle's thick ends and required no modifications. Where have you been all my life?! It's the little things sometimes.
I have a strap that needs those. The strap ends are thick, so I haven't got around to dealing with it. Maybe it's time for that to happen.

alright, I suppose I'm in, and I need some advice.

I bought this off FB marketplace. full transparency....listed at $300. After inspection in a dark walmart parking lot, I found these cracks that I knew to search for. I told the guy I wasn't interested unless there was a steep discount and he said he would work with me. I offered $200 and he agreed. After some thorough setting up and re-seating these 3-point bridge posts, I have a player. Not set on these taper-core Dean Markley SS strings though. Time will tell.

Basically, tell me your thoughts on these neck/headstock cracks. all seems very solid, could be just the finish, but might be more. I knew if I purchased, a resell would be much harder...impossible. my thought was use it for tinkering and for the USA pickups.

oh, the best part....literally zero neck dive. can't believe it actually.

Play the crap out of it and if the headstock has a problem, glue it back on! If you aren't having any problems with it, then it's probably just a finish problem. As far as neck dive, don't tell anybody. The lack of neck dive is our little secret around here.

I have a strap that needs those. The strap ends are thick, so I haven't got around to dealing with it. Maybe it's time for that to happen.
It was such a pleasant surprise. I only got it for the extra set of strap pins for the RNR. I didn't even remember having the extra strap. It's like the RNR willed it into existence. And the XL buttons actually going onto those super thick strap ends seamlessly. So now each Thunderbird has its own strap. Win win win.

If prices crash enough, maybe the rest of us can hope for a '64. Just saying. We know it won't hurt you a bit, since you aren't selling.

I recall that post '08 crash, prices on the vintage investment end of the guitar market just stayed stable. People (in the biz, not individuals) selling them knew things would eventually turn around and just sat waiting. There are a few people/individuals/players like me who lucked into owning a valuable instrument and as you noted, most if not all have no interest in parting with them regardless of monetary worth. Like the guy who owns probably the only '63 II I just learned about through the Thunderbird Owners fb page - that is easily worth north of 10g's ... if my '63 hadn't been stollen I for sure would still have it and would not sell it for any amount of money. These instruments become more than commodities to move around the market to players who fill them with very personal memories.

Uh.......so Gibson bought Mesa/Boogie?

Mesa Boogie joins Gibson Brands

I just got that email. I think it is interesting and a much better fit than the deals the previous CEO did.

There may be some synergies, but only on the sales/marketing/administration side. The shared distribution probably reduces costs to some degree.

It would be interesting to know the back story - I don't know who owned MB and if there was something going on there that could have driven the sale.
