You sold the Sunn!

I sold A Sunn, yeah, still have plenty of them laying about (2x2000s and a 1000s head, plus a 200s on extended loan). Still trying to sell my Marshall. I had a lead on a '64 II with an unbroken neck that I was gonna trade my tele for, but the seller changed his mind (he did say if he changes his mind I have first crack at it), but once I pay off some stuff I guess I need to save my money for these mystery rumor basses!

But you had a Sunn for sale link in your sig, right? That's the one I was referring to.

Yep, my 1200s has moved on, as well as the 4x12 cabs I had, and that largely paid off the Hiwatt I picked up last year. The Marshall will pay off the Precision I got to replace my stolen one and open up my credit again for these new *alleged* Birds

I need beans, and I need them spilled, ASAP.
spill on the couch!..... nah just kidding...:smug:..

File under: Where have you been all my life? I've mentioned my fondness for the LOXX strap locks. And also for the MONO Doolittle straps. The Doolittle has amazing thick rubber ends to them that I think are nicer than any leather end. I have one at home and one I keep in my soft case so I never risk forgetting to pack my strap and not being able to use one because of the proprietary strap pins. Ask me how I know. I've had to go to my friend's place and use his Dremel tool to widen the opening on the strap ends to fit the locks. So I needed new strap pins for the RNR and all I could find available was these LOXX XL, for thicker strap ends. I forgot I had another Doolittle in a box and have been using it with the RNR until the strap locks came, which was today. Sure enough, the XL has a longer threaded post that fits through the Doolittle's thick ends and required no modifications. Where have you been all my life?! It's the little things sometimes.

Thunderbirds were part of the stable for nineties alternative bands. here's a couple.

This one is a bit of an oddball because the original bass line was recorded using a Musicman stingray in the very capable hands of Josephine Wiggs who wasn't even in the band when this performance was done. But hearing that epic bass line being done on a vintage sixties Thunderbird played upside down is still cool.

There's a real dearth of information about Gail Greenwood's bass playing, gear. etc. She's as much fun to watch as to hear, although I see a lot of comments dissing her for her energy levels. No accounting for taste. Seems like a pretty awesome person, too.

Usually by people who could never make it as far. It's really easy to criticize from your armchair.

LOL - that's well over twice what I paid for mine just a few years ago. I wish him good luck with the sale, but I bet he ends up dropping down into the under $1800 market before it sells.
Same for what I see NRs going for now compared to what I paid for mine used in 2017. Prices just seem to be going crazy.

alright, I suppose I'm in, and I need some advice.

I bought this off FB marketplace. full transparency....listed at $300. After inspection in a dark walmart parking lot, I found these cracks that I knew to search for. I told the guy I wasn't interested unless there was a steep discount and he said he would work with me. I offered $200 and he agreed. After some thorough setting up and re-seating these 3-point bridge posts, I have a player. Not set on these taper-core Dean Markley SS strings though. Time will tell.

Basically, tell me your thoughts on these neck/headstock cracks. all seems very solid, could be just the finish, but might be more. I knew if I purchased, a resell would be much harder...impossible. my thought was use it for tinkering and for the USA pickups.

oh, the best part....literally zero neck dive. can't believe it actually.

Does anyone here by any chance have a pickguard sitting around for a 2013 NR they want to sell? I have no idea when I'll get mine back and want SOMETHING on there in the meantime. I'd buy a from a pickguard maker, but they all want the original one to recreate.

If someone were to send me a tracing, I could make one.

Wait, if someone sends you a tracing, you can make a tracing from it?? That seems a little redundant...

If he makes one from a tracing, I can trace that.

Sounds like we need graphics:

I made a tracing for y’all, it is downloadable as a pdf.

Problem solved...

your welcome

The strings hold tension in the opposite direction of the apparent direction of the cracks, if it don’t break don’t fix it.

That’s why I jumped on my NR a year ago and the recently added short scale. When one comes up at a fair price gotta be ready to jump. I hope to add a burst NR in the future, but not at the prices asked now. Here’s a beautiful PB on the bay: gibson non-reverse Thunderbird | eBay.
