I often play above the 5th fret for tone reasons.
Also I do have high parts in some songs.

Haha, dude, there are some songs that have some stuff going on. So far, don't go away mad has the most. Check it out.
But, I do other things. For example. This weekend I jumped up and did some songs with other local tribute bands I played Would, rooster and man in the box with an AIC tribute and I also did Believer and Gets me through with an Ozzy tribute. Next weekend I'm playing a tune with a sex pistols tribute. Also, I was in a Black Sabbath tribute for 3 years playing note for note geezer finger style. So yeah, a bit past the 5th.

Sounds like Denmark isn't the only country where everybody's playing in tribute bands. Only few bands play originals around here and gigs are limited...
No, I like to jump up here and there, keep the chops up. We are unified with other good tribute bands here. Got tired of no money playing original music. We like to have a crowd, a good time and get paid, with tribute bands that happens sad to sayDamn, you play a lot of tribute bands...

I put alot of time, effort and $ into my one band, but, playing Crue gets stale after a while.

I can imagine it must be once in a while...
We mostly play originals (always been in originals bands), but we do occasionally throw a cover in here and there. Our covers are mostly done for specific events, like Halloween and a forthcoming Bowie tribute, where the performing bands are being asked to do a few covers for that particular event. So right now we are working on two Bowie covers.
Prefer doing originals, though...
Probably a strange question. But could you, in a tribute band, write an original song in the correct style, in tribute to the band you are covering?
We have talked about that very thing. Some think so, I disagree. A tribute is just that and not a form for your own music . I'm 43, I'm tired of making nothing playing original music. I totally support original bands, However, for me, it's all about a good crowd and getting paid for my effort. I do miss playing"my" music , and that can happen too.
There have/are tribute bands that also have an original set. Experience has shown that generally , people don't care about the original set. Fact, the kids of today don't go to shows like they did in the 80s, 90s. They just don't. That leaves the older crowd and they want to hear what takes them back to the good ol days before life crushes them. On our case, we try and recreate something long gone but remembered. These people, they come out and forget the real world. It's a very good thing for everyone.

That is an interesting question!
I've heard bands that could be considered tribute bands, but doing originals that sounded so much like the band they were "inspired" by, that you could easily mistake their recordings for being "new" previously unreleased stuff by their idols...
I have another question:
In my current band we play 3 original songs that I co-wrote and recorded for my previous band, but in new arrangements - Would that be considered covers, or are they still originals?
If you wrote them, then are original. Look at all of the versions of songs by bands like, say guns n roses. Hollywood rose originally did several songs that made it to Appetite. They were written by axl/Izzy, so still there work
Bottom line, you write it, it's yours and always will be (unless you sell the rights) To do as you please.
