Thunderbird Club

I've thought about doing the blend knob mod a number of times (on a number of instruments), but I like how the tone kinda opens up when you roll the volume back a notch on one of the pickups. Do you lose that effect with the blend knob?
With M/N pots the other pickup is constantly at 100% and the other varies (range depends on wiring and other mods, like un-grounded and/or no-load) so technically it should be the same if you just dial it bit off center.

I was thinking that with your username that it was the other way around!

As usual, I'm wrong.

I thought so too... lol. You can be whatever you want to be!

Well, sorry for the confusion. When I created my account all my favorite nicknames were available no more already and I thought about what it would be like to be a woman and suddenly this comes to my mind:

It's just a name.
Am I still in the club?:blackeye::cautious:

For whatever reason, young women respond to Mustang Sally. I don't know why, but it always fill dance floors. The girls who jump right up to dance were born something like 30 or 40 years after that song was first recorded. Same with some really awful old Beatles songs that we play. It's just horrible pop dross, but if it makes 'em dance and they have a good time, then who am I to complain?

Besides, I play 'em on a 'Bird and use those songs as an excuse to sneak stuff in around the edges that keep it all tolerable to me.
I like the Beatles a lot. But when I listened to "Mustang Sally" just to see what people on talkbass were complaining about having to play, my reaction was "this is popular? really?" and confusion. Literally had never heard it before. I assumed it must be a regional thing.

Hi all! Been a while.

I know this question has been addressed, but I think I want to chrome out my 2012 Thunderbird; "vintage" it. What are the parts I need?
  • I was going to go with Thunderbuckers for the pick-ups.
  • Hipshot Supertone or a two piece for the bridge?
  • What are the 70's knobs? Those gold reflectors?
  • Is there a vintage tuning peg replacement that'll fit the holes? Or do I need to mod the headstock? Tuner suggestions?
Thanks all!
Where would one get a two piece?

Contact our own GodofThunder59, here's my Greco set up with a two point. Very easy conversion!

I dunno, man. We only have one monarch. Then again, if you aren't a little confusing, you don't belong. Seems like you are probably more appropriate than some of the rest of us. Just saying. Now I'm confused. What was the question again?

The earliest Model Ones had a silver cover. See Gene Simmons with Spector circa 1977.
I didn't know that. My EB-2 has one from the late '60s that has a black cover. The odd thing is that the first mudbuckers were black, not the silver we have all come to think of.

I'll be keeping my eye out for a silver Model One. I think one of those would look great as well as sound great. Model Ones have their own dry coffee sound that I really love. I don't know how else to describe their sound. They are completely unique.

I was kind of being cheeky, but I get it. My generation's players grew up witha good dose of Motown/Stax, as well as what I think of as "The Electric Music Revolution", I.e, Cream, Small Faces, etc...
There's lots of classic stuff I've heard and listen to and hear requested all the time. I've just never, in person, heard "Mustang Sally" either be requested or played.

Didn't mean to diminish your catalog, it's just that we used to get it quite a lot. I guess though, thinking on it, it didn't really happen in the Johnny Winter/Montrose/Mountain rock band... in the Portuguese/wedding band we got it all the time!

In Cali? Wow! I'm surprised.

A Portuguese wedding band gets the request? Lol

I've heard it so many times over the years, I wouldn't mind if I don't hear it for a few more years. Having kids now I dont get out like I used to.
