Thunderbird Club

Turned into a bummer of a day. My assistant's husband died today of COVID after a couple weeks on a vent. He was only 70 and in relatively good health other than his diabetes, which was under control. He was a great guy and also good friend. His was a life well lived with few regrets. A couple here would have had a bond with his serving on a carrier (Enterprise I think), and he reached a master level in his model railroad club. Not long ago he made a replica of the ship he served on in the early '70s. I was impressed, as always by those who can make such things look so real. I mention all this as a reminder for everyone to be wise and careful, but not scared. Unfortunately it seems his contact situation could have been avoided. Small/family gatherings have caused every case I personally know of, so please be careful.
That sucks. I was on the Enterprise in 67. Unlikely I would have known him; 5 years age difference, 6500+ crew. The Big E was an amazing ship. Now she too is gone.

AC/DC 2.0?

That’s what I thought!

that’s what they are going for.

Good Aussie pub rock revived. To bad there are very few opportunities to see them. The singer/guitarist & the Drummer are the brothers.

Cool that they used some nice old 60s & 70s muscle as smoke machines. :D

The line up a year ago was the new MC5, then Airbourne, then Alice Cooper.
Well worth ever cent.

@dagrev sorry for your loss.

Evidently today is the day for it. Had a few text messages today that a colleague died on Thursday. Not Covid related, that other C of a disease Cancer. His stem cell transplant failed and that was the end play really.

I didn’t know him well but we used to sit nearby each other so I’d walk past on the way in to work and out again. Nice guy to have a chat and a laugh with.

So this shows up on FB Marketplace today for $700, but when I look later it’s gone:

These Fender basses (this one and the Jazz+) were top of the line in the early '90s. I used to own a '93 Jazz+. It had the Fender/Kubicki 9v pre and Lace Sensor pu's. (split-coil so no buzz) Really high end 22 fret basses as far a production Fenders went. The next step up was FCS. (interesting that this one has a FCS stamp) I am personally a big fan of Phil Kubicki's Ex-Factors (owned a few) and have 2 of my heavily modded basses equipped with the FCS Fender/Kubicki 9v preamps. Nothing sounds like a Kubicki - I can pick one out hearing it blind-folded and recording engineers love them. I primarily use the active settings but more recently have grown to like the passive setting as well. Under $1k is a very good price for that bass.

Speaking of excited, here's my Fender P Bass Plus (also called a Boner bass because of the extended upper horn). A not too common P bass from the early 1990's in a fairly rare Black Pearl reverse Burst, near mint condition. I had considered at one time painting my Goth in the same Burst. Happy Fender Friday...

An awesome bass! That cool finish has been called "ghost-burst" - really unique and yours is a prime example. Fender just re-introduced these reversed bursts but not this one.

I've posted my '93 American Standard J (also called/referred to as a "boner" because of the elongated upper horn - although I personally find the name distasteful and never refer to it as such) but here it is again. The traditional J & P bodies were redesigned by George Blanda to accommodate a full-length 22 fret neck (no 20 fret neck with ramp) and they balance really well because of that. I love my A/S J, especially after hot-rodding/modding it - it has my favorite Fender J neck profile. I replaced the standard Schaller tuners that came on it with the Deluxe version like yours came with and replaced pretty much every part on it along with chambering the body to lighten it and recently refinished it. (it was RED... I like BMM better)

Not a fan of centre-detent, just when you need that last smidge of adjustment, the centre-detent pulls it past the point you wanted to ... centre. Other than that, it's a cool 7endurr.

Not a fan of Peach Schnapps, never understood the appeal — but other schnapps I like just fine, on ocassion, if single-malt Scotch has run out.

BIG fan of non-reverse Birds of Play a few pages back, wish the thread had more of 'em in it. Of course, Jaguars are cool for this cat, too.

Sorry, not a 'Bird nor Jag (obviously) in the vid.

One word - spandex. (ok.., two words - red spandex) I like the crunchy bass tone though... :)

You have my condolences for the loss of your friend..My music community lost a fellow Bass player this week after a short run with Covid. Her band kept playing gigs throughout the pandemic. I'm waiting for a couple of my band members to get their shots before we get back together...Stay safe everyone.

Condolances.
Sad reminder that we still have to fight this and keep on protecting ourselves and our loved ones.
Thanks, and yes indeed.
Really sorry to hear that.
Thanks Ken.
Sincere condolences Dagrev. I agree completely with the sentiments expressed that we all need to be very careful and take care.
Thanks Border.

Thank you. Sounds like a wise plan. Most people don't have a problem (some never know they had it), but for a few it goes badly, and you can't know if you are one of that few.

Again, I wasn't looking for kind comments (but are appreciated), it was more of a reminder for us to all be careful. Anyone here who would get sick and no longer be part of this Thunderbird community would be a personal loss to all of us.
