Thunderbird Club

My '99 Fender Hot Rod is passive, but is one of the best Fender's I've ever played, but in tone and feel. I'd swear this was made in the custom shop. This is a bass I'll never get rid of. The PUs and everything really are perfect. The Js were slightly overwound to help out, but I never go past 80% when using it blended. The pic doesn't do it justice. It's stunning, and getting orange stunning it no small feat!

That's the Deluxe model, it came after the non deluxe model. Pretty much a totally different beast in looks and sound. I've played one and definitely liked non deluxe model much better. Probably just me, but I've never been very fond of active precision basses.

Same here. My ESP Surveyor has active EMG's and while they sound fine, I am going to swap them for a Geezer set.

I’m a fan of the late 90’s hot rods as well. Great Basses.

I came close to buying a Hot Rod several times when they were new but never pulled the trigger. One of the few 7ender basses I would purchase.

Thanks, and yes indeed.

Thanks Ken.

Thanks Border.

Appreciated Chucky

Thanks Mike

Thanks Geoff, and sorry to hear that.

Thank you. Sounds like a wise plan. Most people don't have a problem (some never know they had it), but for a few it goes badly, and you can't know if you are one of that few.

Again, I wasn't looking for kind comments (but are appreciated), it was more of a reminder for us to all be careful. Anyone here who would get sick and no longer be part of this Thunderbird community would be a personal loss to all of us.
It’s like playing Russian roulette.

Prepping for day in the shed. I’m going to get On the Border down cold. Came across this lesser known piece of pop from from 1981. One trick pony my a**. Thunderbird!

On the Border is a great song, I've tried to learn it as well, but I'm not there yet thanks for the prod!

It is. It’s from his “breakthrough” album, Past, Present and Future.
That record contains the incredible Roads To Moscow track.

I got to see him for this tour at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma,WA great show. "Roads to Moscow was performed with appropriate images projected behind the band - very moving. His early work especially "Past, Present and Future" and "Modern Times" are my favorites, the many historical references and intelligent lyrics are a lost art today. "Old Admirals is another favorite of mine to play, the bass tone is very woofy, very Gibson and I've enjoyed matching the horns through the chorus.

I saw that tour, first time seeing him. I think it was at Cal Poly SLO or maybe Santa Barbara. I know the Year of the Coat show was at Cal Poly. I’ve seen him several times since. He is the nicest man and stays to talk to everyone who wants to chat with him.

I saw him at The Paramont in Seattle for "Modern Times", he was in between songs and someone in the crowd yelled out "Carol", he responded with "is that what you want to hear?", we all said "yes " loudly and then they played it. so cool!

Thanks. Start looking for one. They come up now and again. You won’t be sorry.
I'm certain I won't be sorry, but will be out some money! The new NRs are appealing as well. In good conscience there are just too many projects around the house I need to do first. I have been known to have a lapse in conscience a time or two, so who knows.

That's not much of a handshake. More of a head shake. Looks kind of lodge-like. This isn't from one of your ski trips is it?:D

I never was a puker even when I drank a lot. I think the only time I vomited it it was on some cheap wine. (Which is remarkable considering how much I drank.:rollno:) My two rules when I drank heavily:
If thou shall not be able to hold thy liquor, thou shall not drink.
If thou shall make a fool of thyself, thou shall not drink.

Never cared to be around either one of those kinds of people.
I failed on the second a time or two.

Pretty much me back when I drank. I hate puking. If drinking had me even close to puking, I'd have quit. There was exactly once I had a mildly upset tummy when I awoke. I walked to a nearby diner (Junior's Grill in Atlanta, RIP), and had breakfast, and felt fine.

Interesting none of the new basses are on the Gibson web site yet. I did download their iPhone app to check out (quickly deleted it). Interesting in-app purchases. The early bird yearly subscription is more expensive side than the regular one. I guess it makes sense, considering their often inaccurate web site data.

Um, what exactly would one be subscribing to?
