Thunderbird Club

Made myself owner of this Epiphone Dot today.

The tuners are the give away, specifically how they're mounted, the Orville's are mounted like a '60s Gibson so the top one is the correct answer.
The bottom is a '76 Gibson, Vive la difference :)

So are they reverse-wind? They look like the '60s version.

Not a Thunderbird but it's a Gibson. It's my daughter's but she hardly plays it so she let's me noodle. Best $600 brand new closeout Les Paul deal ever. All because of the robo-tuners and funky signature on the headstock. Plays and sounds like it cost thousands. The top is stunning even if slightly hidden by the Manhatten Midnight burst. She loves it. Don't tell her but I'm gonna steal it.

Interesting. So the guitar pups sound good, that's encouraging. Now that you have your CAR Eppi, would you say the guitar pups sound as good as it? I've played Ltd edition Eppi birds with the non trim ring pups and liked the deep dark sound but was concerned that the trim ring (guitar) pups might not be as deep or rich sounding.

It has been so long that I don't remember enough about how the Silverburst sounded other than I liked it. If you get one with the humbuckers and you find it lacking, you would have many options to replace them. Dimarzio X2N's were used on a lot of Hamer basses in the late 70's/early 80s. There are even the Gibson TB Plus in humbucker size, and those are AGGRESSIVE!!! I like those pickups a lot.

AGREED!

Note the bubble headlights, smooth disc caps, minuscule wind-deflector and minimum chrome.

A black Gibby or Orville etc with 1 pickup, no pickguard, spun-cast T&V knobs, minimum chrome — in fact, blacked out hardware, and the frets can be the bit of bling represented in that beach-bomber...

And oversized stark "GIBSON Thunderbird" on the lower bout, to match the "FORD Thunderbird" below the belt-line on the car.

PS: GHOST a mural of the car on the back of the bass!

Sounds a bit like a Goth, or Blackbird....

I can dig it -

This was a version of the solo Jaco honed over many shows weaving current and classic funk riffs with acid-rock (Jimi), delicate harmonics and Acoustic 360 power. (2 18' folded cabs) Jack Bruce, Tim Bogert and Jack Cassidy all pushed "out front" bass with some distortion/overdrive, but Jaco was an early pioneer using delay pedals and guitar effects on bass.

Wish I was in the audience that night (Santa Barbara County Bowl) Jaco in his absolute prime.
