Thunderbird Club

It has been so long that I don't remember enough about how the Silverburst sounded other than I liked it. If you get one with the humbuckers and you find it lacking, you would have many options to replace them. Dimarzio X2N's were used on a lot of Hamer basses in the late 70's/early 80s. There are even the Gibson TB Plus in humbucker size, and those are AGGRESSIVE!!! I like those pickups a lot.
Very helpful. Thanks!

Can you spot the Orville?

The upper one. The alignment of the tuners is the key. Here is a pick of my -91 as a proof:). And yes, they are reverse tuners, just as on my -66 or -67 EB3.

Congrats !
I love those big guitars, traded a Godin Ultra for one just like that last year. I don't use it much, but it's perfect for my limited electric guitar needs, I mostly play acoustic stuff when I pick up a guitar.

Not a Thunderbird but it's a Gibson. It's my daughter's but she hardly plays it so she let's me noodle. Best $600 brand new closeout Les Paul deal ever. All because of the robo-tuners and funky signature on the headstock. Plays and sounds like it cost thousands. The top is stunning even if slightly hidden by the Manhatten Midnight burst. She loves it. Don't tell her but I'm gonna steal it.
You can easily replace the robo tuners right?

If you're interested in getting rid of the min-e-Tune system, I'll trade you the standard Les Paul Gibson tuners for the robo-tuner set up.

My sons use them all the time for tuning on the fly when jumping from one song to the next in different tunings. They got really good at programming them for custom tunings. We actually added them to their SG and Les Paul.

Anyway, let me know... we could always use spares since they get stripped from time to time.

To come back to yesterday's tuners......

On both of these basses (Orville on top, '76 Gibson on bottom) to bring a string up in pitch you must turn clock-wise - I believe these are termed "Reverse" tuners.

Everything else, the VP, Greco, Jackson, Gibson with Hipshots or Wilkensons you're turning counter-clock-wise to bring a string up to pitch....

Oui, je les ai vu en spectacle jadis. He and his 2 UZEB cohorts, guitarist Michel Cusson and percussionnist Paul Brochu, are legends in QC and rightfully so. At a time where our music scene gravitated from folky-rootsy stuff towards progressive, harder-edged rock, punk and new-wave, these guys went in their own direction with their brand of fusion jazz and generated a near-fanatical following. Can't say you heard about them everyday, but anybody remotely connected with music knew about them and still do. I remember this gig when they opened the show by coming out from the back of the venue playing their instruments (drummer had a small cymbal tied to a tom held with shoulder straps) and built the intensity when they got to their full arsenal on stage. Absolutely awesome.

This was a version of the solo Jaco honed over many shows weaving current and classic funk riffs with acid-rock (Jimi), delicate harmonics and Acoustic 360 power. (2 18' folded cabs) Jack Bruce, Tim Bogert and Jack Cassidy all pushed "out front" bass with some distortion/overdrive, but Jaco was an early pioneer using delay pedals and guitar effects on bass.

Wish I was in the audience that night (Santa Barbara County Bowl) Jaco in his absolute prime.

Funny thing is that I just flat don't like the specific tone he uses before all hell breaks loose very much. It's too nasal and a murky, flat light green that doesn't do it for me. I sure do appreciate his playing, though.

He had a couple of 360s, and it appears that he also had a 320/408 stack. I had one of those for a while, and if you can't have a 360, that's a close second.

I have a quick question for all the Tbird family here! Do you prefer the front strap button on the top edge of your bird or on the back at the neck/body join? I’m having a dilemma of weather or not to move/add one to the back of a recent purchase. All my other birds have it on the back. Just curious if anyone noticed a difference if you’ve moved it to the back from the edge? Thanks!! I know it’s not a true Tbird, but I really like the tone I can get from it. These basses haven’t been liked much, but I’m finding it to be great!

I thought both '64s and '76s had a serial number decal, and since that one doesn't, I'm guessing that it has been repaired at some point. The tuners are spaced a little wider, so I'm guessing '64. Being Gibson, that may not be much of a clue to go on.

At the neck heel works for me. I have had a couple 'Birds that had the strap button on the top side of the vestigial upper bout, and moved those.
