Thunderbird Club

Looks very nice!

Unfortunately, that color isn't really my cup-o-tea :(

Looks like it could stand to have some chrome tuners to match the bridge & knobs...

That burst Greco on Reverb tho  .....if I hadn't recently bought two (that I like really well, btw)....:sorry:

On a slightly separate topic...

What's the best way to intentionally remove bridge inserts?

LOL - or you could just pop them out with a lever or a good yank. Looks like you can disregard my previous post. :D

Well, your idea sounds excellent, especially for ones that are not presently loose

Mine were visibly pulled out a bit, and had glue/epoxy/something :jawdrop: between the body and insert shoulder. Figured they were at least partly glued/glued improperly.

But, I didn't need a lever or anything - just pulled straight up by hand.....they were essentially as loose as the ones on my CP when I got it.

How they didn't completely pull out with Roto 77s, I've no idea

But!
I fixed them the same way I did those on the CP, with a bit of bamboo skewer wedged in, and hammer-tapped into place

These should stay put now....

have you had the luck of playing a 70’s one? I’d love to try that thing....wonder if the pup is similar to the later 80’s ones....not to offend anyone but a Greco NR that is more true to the 60’s Gibby the way the reverses are, would be a dream bass imho.....

My Greco is a '77, I don't think there's any difference in the pups, you know where I live if you want to try it! :)

With a Hipshot 3 point?

Mine is a '77 as well. Chuck, I get up your way a few times a year. On my next trip up I'll bring my Greco II and you can try it out along side your Greco IV on your rig. I'd be interested to hear if the lack of a bridge pup changes the sound of the neck pup (can be noticeable in guitars, not sure about basses though). Here's the ad from around that time frame. I don't think the pups changed until much later when they went with the new style without the covers and trim rings.

And gracefully moving back to the topic of TBirds...
For those in the northern Indiana, Southern Michigan, North West Ohio and Chicago area, looks like another great deal on what is claimed to be a mint limited Edition Eppi PB bird with case. If it's everything the seller claims its a very fair price. Don't know if he will ship.

Again, no affiliation with the seller and I have not contacted him to confirm any claims. Just passing on to the club something I suspect will draw a lot of interest... especially from @MCF and maybe @KaraQ or even @Larry V

Enjoy!

Very nice bass and the price is good for its condition and the fact that it has a case. If I were in the market, the 5 hour roundtrip drive would be a non-issue for me.

Looks very nice, but whats with the extra strap button in the cutaway? Looks like it might impede playing in the upper frets.
Didn’t notice it before. Huh. Never seen anyone put one there. I’m trying to imagine how the strap would even work properly. Unless the owner is lefty and plays it upside down.
I would make a guess that he/she did not want to drill through the neck plate.

Yes, the metal inserts in the body, that the threaded posts screw into - and your idea was actually where I was headed

I have a couple of very small - maybe 6"? - pry bars that I was going to try, with a bit of wood as a pad. I got the genius :rollno: idea to see how tight they really were....and they just sorta came out with a firm pull :banghead:

Should'a tried that before asking, I guess :cautious: :bag:

Hey a Blackbird... I had one, it was a nice bass, even for a non-Nikki fan... What's next?

I've pretty much got everything I need (a bit more, actually...) as far as Thunderbirds go.

....except for a II. I can't afford a real 60s Thunderbird II, so maybe a Greco version, at some point.

Oh, and maybe a Suzi Quatro Thunderbird also (almost had one last year :( ), once I've cleared out some of these non-Thunderbird basses I don't really play.

Also, maybe someday, if I have lots of extra :greedy::greedy: laying around I don't need... maybe an NS-2X....

So yeah, mostly got everything covered.....:bag:

I've always been a one-bass guy, just played an approach, worked a sound. Lately (ok it's been some years now, but...) being in several projects and gigging a good bit (normally...) has called on me to have a quiver of approaches and sounds. Call me a late bloomer... I've got like 5 heads and cabs, a couple basses. I'll be filling out with another instrument or two and letting a couple amps go. The VP coming this weekend isn't something I'm in great $hape for, but I can hustle and make it work, and I'm really liking the Thunderbird thing.
I need to live a little...

I seem to be the reverse - I've got two amps (one's just a very small practice amp), but basses....let's just say, several? Working to trim that back a bit
