This sort of thing isn't exactly my strong suit, so the results may be.....not awesome?
But learning what not to do next time is often part of the fun ;)

Best tack would be removing most of the material in the lower section, cleaning it up and and starting from scratch. Craft stores will have hard foam to shape exactly for the bass and installing new velour (using spray adhesive) is way better than attempting to make the original material work.

Is it red bass Wednesday......

Back when I had a waistline and an Explorer.

I really like this bass, what a pleasant surprise it's been! Love the tone of the stock pickups, on a set neck bass with Ken's SIT Power Steels it's loud, grindy goodness with fingers or a pick, just one more unknown, underappreciated, great Gibson bass

That's one of the options I've been leaning towards. The Styrofoam was already hacked on, and the material torn - and I had to take off quite a bit more of the foam.

I'm thinking your plan would be the easiest, rather than trying to patch together what I've got left :sour:

Probably be good to get foam that's not quite as hard, too?

I'd second JIO on this. And although I've never attempted case repair in the past I'd guess that if any adhesive is used it should be low or non VOC type to keep off gassing from effecting the finish on the bass. That and an extended open air exposure in the warm sun to speed up any off gassing the fabric, foam or glue might want to do.

Taking George's wise advice I removed what I hoped was just an explanatory post.

Nothing negative about... Well, there is neck dive thing.

Love that line up! Showcasing some of the sexiest basses ever designed.

PS - wasn't concerned so much by your post, it was the piling on and potential for someone to retaliate with equally insulting posts in the opposite direction which could have shut the thread down in a heartbeat. Good news is, looks like we've now focused on the color of some thunderbird necks thanks to Chucks good humor and wit.

Stop posting pics of that bass! My wife has to slap me out of a trance every time you show it. It's like Homer Simpson and donuts. :D

Makes Homer Simpson drool sound..........Bacon

Thank you. When you move back home, you can see and play them all in person!:D They will appreciate some talent for a change, and they are all aflutter about the possibility of your return.;) (I actually told them it was more likely than it is, but didn't have the heart to tell them otherwise after the excitement in the aviary.

I didn't think that, and understood the "names" were adding up, which we all understood, but could indeed be the source of "an issue" for a person or mod just dropping in having no context, or the very likely scenario you suggested. Just isn't worth the chance of disrupting our neck dive lovers fellowship, so I edited myself. Which I need to do more often!

When I couldn't sleep last night I turned my iPod on (which is on my night stand for such times), and listened to some crosby, stills and nash. There's a fair amount I don't care for about them, but I do really like some of the music and love the harmonies. In listening to wooden ships for the __th time over the years I really focused on the bass part. I don't know who played it, but he/she was laying it down fast and furiously at times.
At first I thought it was Greg Reeves. But looking at my fifty year old album insert:
