Thunderbird Club

Somebody had a new set of SIT Power Steels installed yesterday - whoa!
Maybe a short Youtube is in order for the weekend, what a bass!

Veronica - I'd love to hear how the SIT Power Steels sound on the Greco II with and without a pic.

Recall I have ancient TI Jazz Flats on my Greco that sound wonderful but keep thinking Rounds would take it to the next level. I don't take this plunge lightly, the TI's sound great but look like they may be on their last restring leg.

The other factor driving the restring urge is my OCD. Every time I pick up the bass I cringe at the drunk orangutan restring job the previous owner did. Borderline embarrassing to take out in public.

It doesn’t take much of an angle to round the edges of the nut.
Hence my orangutan comment. There are some who will just assume that a bit of bite and a lot of force will solve the problem.
The other advantage is the phillips tip is magnetized. For those tiny little trc screws.
Dropped one once. Now I have a white sheet on which to work just so that I can see where it went...

Just take off your shoes and walk around the room in the dark, you'll find that screw in no time, along with any legos that might have been lost long ago.

I'll brush up on a tune then, and play it with out music as well. I'm not a Flats player at all, I put some TI's on my '89, they lasted about a month- ugh, sorry guys, they just sucked the life out of that bass. That Greco wants to be loud, and rudely aggressive by it's nature so I think you should give it the strings that let it do just that. :)

This is the offending string job...

IMG_4640.JPG

All silks ratted up and trashy looking.
G string - string tip inserted in hole and wound down the tuner shaft as it should be.
D string - string tip inserted in hole and wound UP the tuner shaft.
A string - string tip NOT inserted in hole (was sticking out 2") and string wound UP the shaft.
E string - string tip inserted in hole but string wound all the way down so it's rubbing on the collar.

Obviously none of that impacts the playability or sound of the bass, but looks haphazard at best.

Your point is?

To give my my elderly mother with macular degeneration something to do, I let her put strings on. Looks normal for her. :D
