Thunderbird Club

I’m not laughing Count. Always found that song annoying.

A 'happy' song about losing a friend. Yuck.:spit:

This damn song played throughout my youth in the 70's. How in the heck did it become so damn popular? Friggin' depressing lyrics and crap musically as well. Pop music in the 70's was the worst.

I'm guilty of liking a song for its overall sound, then later having the lyrics pointed out to me and being :wideyed::bag:. This was one of those. Sounded kinda cute and folk-y. Nope.

TBH, I loved the Carpenters harmonies. We did what we could with 4 voices to emulate them on the 3 or 4 of their songs we did in the 70s. We did a coupla Streisand songs. Not a fan. Captain and Toenail? Well, ya hadda do "Love Will Keep Us Together" back then. (Restaurant/lounge gig from 1/75 to 6/80-yes, 5 1/2 years, 6 nites a week-1 gig. Almost turned into a 'steady' :smug:)

As I mentioned, I liked it back then. Liked the music because it seemed a little different in some ways. Now I find it abusive to my ears.

I liked the Carpenters a little then too.... (Liked Bread more since I have a softer side.) Bab's was a no go. Captain and Tennille were clever for one song. It was all pretty cheesy then but we didn't know it because most everything was.

It’s funny. A lot of this cheese was played by some of the world’s greatest musicians! :roflmao:. I used to get laughs at sound checks when I would play the opening riff to Love Will Keep Us Together.

What it seems to me is that pop music had to be something that people would or could dance to and that stretched out well into the 80's. Heavy Metal, Hair metal and Grunge killed that among us Gen X'ers and all generations there after. Almost no one younger than 50 goes dancing or hits the dance floor outside of a wedding reception or that type of event.

My .02... could be wrong but that's what I think.

sorry missed it...what song you guys talking about?
:roflmao:

There's still music I'd rather not hear/be reminded of but maturing has opened my ears to styles of music I would have never thought I could appreciate when I was younger. My parents would listen to a radio station that played Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Dion Warwick - all the 'adult' music of the late '60s/early '70s period. They didn't even have a name/category, like "adult contemporary" or whatever like they do now - we considered it the "old people music" station. Lots of string arraignments and the furthest thing from 'rock music'.

These days I love listening to a well crafted song of any genre - especially the ones that were new then and have stood the test of time. One 'stylist' who encompassed both worlds then that I only recently became aware of is this artist - I don't know if my ears would have been open to his work then.

Then there's Dusty -

Tonight is the first rehearsal with the band in over a year..here’s what’s on the menu..we tend to run right down the list and we don’t stop unless someone trips over a major clam.
The guys don’t know about the red Thunderbird yet..Should be fun.

While I've never tried this, I've heard that using old bass strings to "file a nut" by moving it back and forth over an existing string groove works well to open the groove to a larger string.
@GBassNorth does this I think. I did it once to open up one grove a bit; it worked. But it was hard to make sure I left a slight angle in the front.
