Thunderbird Club

There's still music I'd rather not hear/be reminded of but maturing has opened my ears to styles of music I would have never thought I could appreciate when I was younger. My parents would listen to a radio station that played Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Dion Warwick - all the 'adult' music of the late '60s/early '70s period. They didn't even have a name/category, like "adult contemporary" or whatever like they do now - we considered it the "old people music" station. Lots of string arraignments and the furthest thing from 'rock music'.

These days I love listening to a well crafted song of any genre - especially the ones that were new then and have stood the test of time. One 'stylist' who encompassed both worlds then that I only recently became aware of is this artist - I don't know if my ears would have been open to his work then.

Then there's Dusty -

Speaking of "adult music." I've always been a sucker for Dean Martin for some reason. Also liked Perry Como. Love Nat King Cole always have.

As much as I love classical music, often not fond of strings in pop-type songs where they are so dominant.

Tonight is the first rehearsal with the band in over a year..here’s what’s on the menu..we tend to run right down the list and we don’t stop unless someone trips over a major clam.
The guys don’t know about the red Thunderbird yet..Should be fun.

Nice! I see a few song we do as well, it looks like we're finally going to get together on 5/16 for our first rehearsal in 16 months! Meantime I'm going to have to start playing our set list again, I completely let it go and have probably lost my "muscle memory" of all those songs!

What it seems to me is that pop music had to be something that people would or could dance to and that stretched out well into the 80's. Heavy Metal, Hair metal and Grunge killed that among us Gen X'ers and all generations there after. Almost no one younger than 50 goes dancing or hits the dance floor outside of a wedding reception or that type of event.

My .02... could be wrong but that's what I think.

:roflmao:
IDK, I never see anyone under 50 'cept waitresses.

Question for the group,

On the FB Thunderbird group page there's a thread regarding White 76-79 Birds and S/Ns, it's been noted that there are at least two variations, 5 digit and 8 digit, also perhaps the outside chance of a decal as well. I seem to recall that there may be one or owners of white 76-79 Birds here, so chime in with some info!

Thunderbird on!

My muscle memory is fine. My memory, not so much.

I’ll admit to liking Andy Williams. My second concert. I was around eight.

my mom was way hip....
Aretha Franklin - Rocksteady - YouTube

What, no Freebird of Gimmie Three Steps...?:D
Funny that you would say that..When we put this band together ten years ago we put in a "no Skennerd" clause. There was too much local saturation with other local bar bands covering those tunes. We wanted to be a little different. It seems to be working for us.
Still hear to occasional Free Bird heckler...

Mine if 8 numbers. I've mentioned here before that my 76 is a one off odd duck. It has a stamped '76 serial number and "second" at the top of the headstock not down the side. The bass is white and there were no white bases made that year. Mine number is 00232xxx, indicating a '76 and possibly a custom color. Or there was some flaw and it was set aside and finished in 77 (has 77 pots). Or they just made up a number! But it does conform to the typical dating pattern it seems.

COPIED- 1975-1977:
During the period from 1975 to 1977, Gibson used a transfer that had eight-digit numbers. The first two indicate the year (99=1975, 00=1976 and 06=1977), the following six digits are in the 100000 to 200000 range.
MADE IN USA was also included on the transfer and some models had
LIMITED EDITION also applied.
NUMBER YEAR
99XXXXXX 1975
00XXXXXX 1976
06XXXXXX 1977

My first concert was Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies in '73, not really a surprise that I do what I do :roflmao:
My first concert was David Cassidy. Yes, I said David Cassidy. Go ahead and finish laughing, I'll wait! I was enthralled seeing "a band" (more laughter here) playing on TV at that time. So my mom and a friend took me and a friend of mine to see him. Couldn't hear anything because of all the girls screaming. It was a good concert if you like to hear girls scream. They were exceptional at it that night.
