Thunderbird Club

There are no other markings to indicate mine is a second. Does yours says second/2nd anywhere?
Yes it does.

That right there is the Trifecta of the bass world.
I've heard glowing reviews on the old Embassy basses. What's your take on it vs the VP?
The old Embassy is darker overall that either of those in the pic. The VP is brighter than both, but not as big sounding as either of the '64s. The old Epi is thick sounding but not aggressive as I recall when doing the string tryouts for it. That was a little surprising, but with TI Jazz Rounds it sounds fantastic. It has it's own Thunderbird flavor I would say. You would think it would sound nearly the same as the '64 Thunderbird being the same year, but not really. It has it's own thing going on.

The Red VP killed it at rehearsal last night. The band was extremely tight after over a year off. We went through all three set lists and threw in four new tunes..everything seemed fresh again. I think this Covid break was good for us mentally and made everyone
appreciate what we have as a group. Glad to be back in the game..
Unanimous vote on the Cat in the hat truss rod cover.
Fishing season on the Chesapeake Bay opens up on Saturday..Things are looking up.
Cheers.
One thing no one ever says. "Took my VP to ___ and it just didn't sound good."

Glad it went well and seemed like a great restart. And we love hearing how great VPs sound. Never gets old.

On the "second" stamp. I found this when I was trying to understand what that implied. I don't recall where I found this. Possibly a Gibson forum.

I have one stamped "second" for no apparent reason. So it really made me look when someone asked about them in "Vintage Guitar Magazine". Check out the May 06 issue.

George Gruhn said, "I have seen hundreds of them, and on only one could I find anything that would warrant the stamp. In my experience, stamped-2 Gibson’s may not sell as fast as those without the stamp, but they bring the same price because ultimately, there's not anything really wrong with them."

Greco Flying V Bass

He sure made that thing sound like cack - ugh!

I've wanted one of these V basses for a while, or the Ibanez version (one has a set neck, one's bolt on, can't remember which is which), but given the EB-3 pickup arrangement, it'd need a bit of a revamp. I actually think he gets a sound exactly how I'd expect an EB-3 to sound. Could always pop a Curtis Novak EB-BSx in, which is a Bisonic/Darkstar pickup under a EB-0 pickup cover, but I might be inclined to go a bit more extensive, and pull both pickups and put in three Thunderbird pickups.

He's got dumb @$$ toys he's running it through, I can fart with more clarity than he's getting, just not my thing.
