Quite frankly, IMO, it appears your sound person doesn't know what he's doing. The High mid is set at about 2K and is cut by -15db. The high is a shelving EQ that is also set around 2K, and is cut by-13.5 db. I cant tell if the high pass filter is active, but it's set at 20HZ, which is doing nothing. Unless you have a lot of volume coming from your stage rig and he's augmenting that with some "creative" equalization, i cannot see this sound ing good at all.

I almost certain I don't have a lot of volume since people across the platform more often than not don't even hear me (and my cab is aimed in their direction). I am pumping out some solid lows, and I can see him adding some top end maybe, but that's not what I'm seeing in the EQ.

Comparison I tried the other day. I ran my bass straight to the acoustic guitar player's DI and it sounded much more like a bass should sound more than it did through my DI. Go figure.

Doing sound is so subjective, even if people have some knowledge. Their knowledge can be little more than poor information masquerading as factual information.

Went back to your original post on this. Suggest taking your longest cable(or 2), walk out into the 'audience'* area B4 services, setting the amp the way you wanna sound, and adjust prn. Then boost the volume just a little.

No Chuck I never said. Using a V4BH, which tone wise sounds more like a small SVT, through a Ampeg Heritage 410.

Unfortunately, church sound engineers can be very rigid in their belief of the scale of their knowledge and not open to suggestions. While the instrument is named "bass", there is so much more frequency content than 50Hz to 2Khz. I would suggest he reset the EQ to flat and try smaller, judicious cuts to specific frequencies rather than wholesale cuts across such a broad swath of frequencies. Bring the mids back closer to flat and perhaps start the Hi shelving EQ at 5K, which would more simulate the high end roll off of a typical bass cab.

That's kind of what I'm attempting by not giving up my head and cab! At least augmenting to make sure some real bass gets out there.

Thanks! I agree that is a good idea.

Now to have that conversation: "hey man, I really appreciate what you do but I have to admit you're doing it wrong and don't know as much as you think!" Or maybe even say "I was looking at the EQ and it looked really interesting. How did you arrive at this being ideal? On the screen is looks kind of unusual."

yeah, most are useless…my test is asking them about "Gain Structure"…I usually get the deer in the headlights look and I know….did a gig at a fancy shopping mall in Carmel just precovid where they brought in their very expensive sound company and the schmoe forgot to put the bass through the FOH because he decided to use a condenser mike on my rig but didn't know what the Phantom Power switch was for…..didn't even realize it till I said something….. i

By that I meant via TEAMS, Facebook, Zoom, or whatever other application that could work, we do that all the time at work.

But I might have chosen the wrong word (virtual), which is a litteral translation of the french term virtuel, which basically mean videoconference. Sorry about that, my english does fail me from time to time. I mean well though .
