Thunderbird Club

When somebody notices the fretless 'Bird, I kinda wish that was true. It's usually some really weird guy who wants to talk to me about it for as long as he can hang around.

Luckily I've never had the 'pleasure' of such audience interface...

That is exactly my point - why glorify and promote this BS corporation that skates on jingoism and the myth of American exceptionalism, even for amusement sake? But.., to each their own. "it's a free country" TM
I don't buy into the nonsense. A Harley is just a motorcycle to me. And it's fun to ride. There's nothing more to it or less to it for me than that. It's a different kind of fun, that's all.

Consider yourself blessed, and don't play a fretless 'Bird at a jazz gig. The singer in that band attracted some odd attention at times as well, which led to some strange interactions as well. She put on a great show, but there were people who didn't seem to understand that it was a show. Bizarre that things like that would happen while playing jazz, but there you go.

.....:jawdrop:

I totally forgot!

Fortunately, I live on the left coast, and it's still Thursday :smug:

Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to re-use an old pic. :(

I'll see if I can come up with something creative for next week :)

The wife surprised me this evening and bought me the 2015 that I’ve been wanting for a looooong time. Seller’s picture below. I’ll make sure to do a NBD type of post when it arrives in a few days. Can’t wait to finally be a member of the club!

Simply beautiful! You’re gonna love it. Of course you’ll need to slap a black guard on that beast to really fit in the club. BTW, a line is forming for eligible bachelors should you and your wife ever part ways.
Since it’s Thunderbird Thursday, I’ll welcome you to the 2015 club with mine…

Currently running LaBella Black tapes and sporting a black pick guard. The guard was purchased from an eBay seller who now has them back in stock, I’ll look for the link and post it when I find it. As noted, drop those pups as low as they will go.

Replacement Pickguard For Gibson Thunderbird- Black with Gold Logo | eBay

All this Greco talk might have made me pull the trigger on one. Details once I know the purchase is complete
If you get it, you’ll be spoiled for life.

(ugh) 'merican "style" (gag me with a spoon...) How much do you want to bet that those 'merican flags in the background were all made in China?

Yah, but that's more about emulating the glorification of the myth of "American individualism" ... so individual... which one is my bike?

Thanks, I acknowledge that (from afar) and I avoid jug wine like the plague. (did my fill in art college days) Too much affiliated negative baggage attached to HD for me to be remotely interested - and Im a hard-core road two-wheeler.

That is exactly my point - why glorify and promote this BS corporation that skates on jingoism and the myth of American exceptionalism, even for amusement sake? But.., to each their own. "it's a free country" TM

Maybe it's because I'm an artist and I identify with objects in a way most people don't. For me all objects/icons are loaded and depending on how they are loaded creates their 'aura' or identity depending on one's cultural reference point. I appreciate the mechanical and historical aspects of HD, but do not support the more recent connotation/association as a "philosophy" that it has morphed into. Sorta like the NRA - originally for sports shooters/hunters. Hard to separate 'appreciating' the ancient design of a swastika after it was absconded by the nazis. Both exist in history but each has the weight of its timely relevance.

I'll go back to our alternative thread now...

You have got to be kidding me!

How much of this BS does a guy have to endure when he came here for Thunderbird posts. Hey George, how about taking you BS elsewhere where you're certain to impress all your leftist buddies with your leftist horsesh1t!

Who doesn't like a detour into amps or classic cars or fender-shaped objects from time to time but this kind of crap doesn't belong here where it's obvious that a political motivation from one camp is being used to hammer the other.

I hope all those posts get deleted as well as this one because this type of rhetoric has no place here where we all come from different backgrounds and can be united by our love for Thunderbird basses.

Apologies to our Queen, but this needs to be addressed.

I've deleted all related posts and apologies to the members here - you are correct that this is not the place for such. It won't happen again.

Congratulations! Those are very special Thunderbirds. I know two people here off the top of my head that own one. They can fill you in on them, if they haven't already. Much better choice than the typical modern Thunderbird. Your wife, as we might say in our parts, "Done good." Looks beautiful!

I like the second better, not ideal, but better. I could hang with that dude. Might even be one of my old neighbors or fellow construction workers.

Gentlemen,

While I am a moderator, I'm not assigned to the "Basses" section of the forum at this point in time and cannot edit/delete posts here, the assigned Mods can do that if the posts get reported. Since this has been addressed in the thread before I would remind all to not touch on subjects that veer from our stated subject. We can have fun here and I certainly have no problem with basses other than Thunderbirds showing up in the thread - We should all play what we love and love what we play. Let's leave the politics, nationalism etc out and keep it friendly.

Thanks,
V
