Thunderbird Club

I love that pickguard. Where did you get it?
It was a seller from Singapore on eBay called overstock toys. He had a lot of different guitar and bass parts before the pandemic. Then everything disappeared from his store. Reputable seller; I think four or five of us on here bought them. They were $40.00 with nicely done gold Tbird logo.

Hopefully they’ll go back in production.

Simply beautiful! You’re gonna love it. Of course you’ll need to slap a black guard on that beast to really fit in the club. BTW, a line is forming for eligible bachelors should you and your wife ever part ways.
Since it’s Thunderbird Thursday, I’ll welcome you to the 2015 club with mine…

Currently running LaBella Black tapes and sporting a black pick guard. The guard was purchased from an eBay seller who now has them back in stock, I’ll look for the link and post it when I find it. As noted, drop those pups as low as they will go.

Replacement Pickguard For Gibson Thunderbird- Black with Gold Logo | eBay

If you get it, you’ll be spoiled for life.

Red, candy apple red, I want one so bad!
Well the good news is the Overstocktoys store is back! But his price is higher than a year and a half ago. Sign of the times I guess.

Thanks! Wow, that is a bit more expensive than I am used to paying for pickguards. Then again, the T-bird logo probably adds labor cost to each one.

If you want a lower price (and who doesn’t) simply launch the eBay link I provided, and save it in your eBay “watched” list. About a week later you’ll get an email from the seller offering the guard at a discounted price, still through eBay so it’s on the up and up. I think he sent me an offer to sell at about $75. You might also be able to offer him a lower price and see if he will bite.

Personally I think $75 is a fair deal for the guard, considering no one else makes one with an engraved gold logo and it fit my bird perfectly. I do wish it wasn’t a black/white/black guard but that was easily fixed with a black sharpie once it arrived.

Agree with this assessment of the store. Pre-pandemic the delivery time was pretty impressive. I may be ordering another one from him.

I like that you did that... I'd have whipped out the Sharpie as well.

I don't remember paying that much for the pickguard on my '15, but then I don't remember at all. It's worth it! and mine is set up with the same tapes as G's '15. Those pickups make tapes sound far stronger and more aggressive than you would expect from tapes.

I don’t mind the white; compliments the white dot fret markers I think.
I hadn’t thought of it that way, makes sense.

Not sure why it doesn't look right to me but it just doesn't. I do like WBW though.
It’s just my OCD kicking in. If the logo was white I’d want the black/white/black guard. But with the gold logo the white layer was just a bit too much going on for me.

A gold layer would have been perfect for my shallow self. As it is, I don't mind the white strip because it gives the pickguard just a little definition on the dark finish of the bass.

For the record, a VP does not fit in a Gibson case or a rectangular Epiphone case. I checked last night. It's about an inch too long for either, so modifying one isn't an option. Once we get the new wiring paid for, I'll be getting a tapered case. That's probably a year from now. I get to play the VP in the basement, though, so all's well.

That is a puzzlement, I've taken my VP out and about several times in one of my Gibson cases.
