Yeah, some things just don't look right given their context...

Playing update (feel free to ignore):

I was back at the hand clinic today. Poked and prodded by some residents, got to see a resident get quizzed on gross anatomy, reading MRIs, and surgical approaches. The innervation is unlikely to improve with surgical intervention on the nerve (muscles have atrophied too much already). Instead we are going to do some fancy wiring on tendons to regain functionality. Surgery scheduled for 4 August. The strange part to me; I won't be out for the surgery; it's being done under nerve block. Recovery enough to type by 2 weeks, to play by 4.

TLDR; back to playing by labour day!
Glad there seems to be a feasible path for greater mobility.

So is it rigged to saturate the tube as you rock the pedal forward? That would be cool - sorta like standing in front of your amp to overdrive the signal.
No it’s not that sophisticated, but that would be cool. IIRC it creates distortion by running a 12AX7 with a low voltage.
It sounds pretty good, but needs some additional EQ shaping to be useful in a live situation. It creates a lot of high frequency content.

That's awesome, there will be a new NR waiting for you, yes?

Oh come on, I bet your anatomy isn't that gross. Probably tastes like watermelon, too.

I finally found an Epiphone Thunderbird on Reverb that was inexpensive and needed some finish and electrical work so I bought it! It arrived yesterday!

Unfortunately the seller doesn't understand how to pack and ship such a long bass, crammed it into what I assume is a standard length box, and it's now ruined. Neck is cracked on both sides of the headstock. Certain death.

In my opinion the act of shipping a musical instrument should be approached with the same care and attention as lovemaking - If it don't fit, DON'T FORCE IT!

Ugh, I feel just sick that another 'Bird bit the dust. I would rather they just removed the neck before shipping. And now I have to wait until FedEx pays his claim to get my money back; not a big deal, just a minor pain...

Not giving up, I'll not be between 'Birds forever.

That's such a shame. Sorry for your troubles. From joyful anticipation to total disappointment.

Not that it matters to you at this point but when this stuff happens I always wonder if the seller is pulling an insurance scam.

They have a busted "whatever", bass, amp, laptop, "whatever" and they put twice the insurance on it so that you get your money back and they recover the cost of the "whatever" as well.

Seinfeld did an episode on this but the scam was that the broken item was sent to themselves and Newman was onto them. I don't remember all who was involved but I think it was Kramer and George.

edit: It was Jerry and Kramer.

A plate starved 12AX7 can sound good, but it can also sound like a box of bees.

:)Sounds like good news. We’ll all rejoice when you can comfortably play your new NR Tbird.

:DJust remind the docs that you are president of the Princess Fingers Club, and as such you forbid them to use any cobalt tools or wires in the operation, and also that it would be a big plus if they could find a way to get sparkling little stars to appear every time you wiggle your fingers and smile.

Seriously, good luck with the operation. As your fellow Canadian Red Green says, “Keep your stick on the ice, we’re all pulling for ya”.

Can you buy the carcass from the seller at a discount and make a 7enderbird out of it?

What is this "7enderbird" you speak of? Will I find anything if I google that? I was considering making a Frankenbass out of it anyway so that may be right up my alley.

Well, make a project out of the body if you don't have to send it back for the refund. Or offer it up here; plenty here who would put it to use.

Good idea, I'll post it if it comes to that. Thank you.

That's a low-down dirty trick I hadn't thought of. Humans...

The break looks like a simple repair. @Cardinal Fang I’m not saying you should accept it, but if you end up with it there’s lots of folks here that can help.

OK, I thought that was a death sentence to a Thunderbird neck. It could take three weeks for him to settle with Fedex but I'll post back here for help when I find out what's up. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who replied with helpful suggestions, you're all top-notch humans.

To express my gratitude... here's a Swedish Thunderbird sighting for you:

Having a plan that leads back to playing within foreseeable future sounds good, right ?
Hope all goes well.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of these guys. Unique sound but at the same time reminds me of a different band, maybe Yes.
Did get a kick out of the audience, almost all of them looked like they’d rather be somewhere else - LOL.
Well, it's a safe bet they were listening to the record. I'd look bored too.

@Cardinal Fang Here's a CAR Epi that I bought new and parted out for the body. I fit an inexpensive lefty neck to it and replaced all the hardware with chrome parts. The pickups were Seymour Duncan ' P Bass types potted into N.O.S. ' Gibson covers. 7ender sound, without the 7ender.

Great news!

But two weeks with no PillO will seem weird. Oh wait. You probably just use Siri anyway. Never mind.

Who knew that was a Thunderbird! Haven't heard that song in years.

I think a Thunderbird the color of her eyes would be awesome.

I had a commute across one of the floating bridges for a few years, and I would see the same guy riding a Harley every day. He wore a hi-viz one piece touring suit like a Roadcrafter and a full face helmet. Rain or shine, there he was, riding the opposite direction from the one I was riding. He treated his Harley just like I treat bikes - they get me where I'm going and don't require any apology for not looking like what anybody expects.

It's amazing how Scandinavians come up with the nastiest death metal and the most poppy pop music. It's almost like they have a completely split personality. She does look pretty good in bubble wrap though. No headstock breaks likely for her.
