tomorrow I will be getting some flats, should I be worried about the size, I know there are XL strings, and since this thing is huge is that needed?? or a regular rotosound of Ernie fits with no problem ??

Most "long scale" are long enuff. Extra length means extra scrap.
you think they are gonna rebuild in Surfside? remember when there was nothing for miles on that key?..
The only thing to watch out for re strings is some have had problems with heavier gauge E strings and running out of travel on the saddle to intonate. It really isn't a problem with most 45 to 105 sets and lighter.
Well, oceanfront real estate being as high dollar as it is, prolly. Maybe next time do something to curtail salt water intrusion? Just sayin'.

Turns out I was wrong. The VP fits in the Flamingo's case. It's pretty well jammed in, but good enough to travel safely in the back of my van so long as there's no idiot roadie behavior somewhere along the line. I'm happy. No need for yet another case that needs to be stashed somewhere.

Rotos (rounds or flats) will work fine as will EB Cobalts.

I put standard length DR stainless rounds on my VP, and when those wear out, I'll probably go with EB Cobalt Flats. I overtrimmed the D and G strings, but they are still plenty long enough.

One of your relatives was the previous owner of my VP. The metal parts have a lovely patina that a non-Chechen alien life form cannot hope to cause.

More about VP cases. The first Gibson case I checked was the '15 case. The foam must be in a slightly different configuration in that case, since it's the same size as the other two. The '01 and '91 cases barely fit the VP, but they will work. I wouldn't call either one ideal for it. They will work. Neither the basic Epiphone case that the bolt on lives in nor the fitted Epiphone case that I use with the P-Bird and fretless 'Bird work for a VP.
