I've pretty much always played in bands whose first job was to please the audience and that in turn would please management who would then have us back. I, therefore, have played a lotta songs I didn't like or possibly hated. ~3 minutes later, that song ended and we played something else. And I/we got paid for playing music. So I guess I'm a musical ho.

There was a guy who used to come into the lounge at the Marco Polo. We were not s'posed to 'see' him, but he had a favorite song(I don't remember what it was-~1981). We'd finish whatever song we were playing and then play "his" song. $100 in the tip jar.

Great pic and effect. Amazing what you can do in seconds digitally these days. When I was doing graphic design back in the late 1970s I had to do stipple artwork like that by hand, yes every stinking dot with rapidograph ink pens. One like that on ANSI C size vellum in black and white would be about a three day job. There was always the airbrush method but it required masking and wasn’t as uniform in dot size. Loved the finished work but hated the job.

I can totally relate. I used to work for several graphic studios back in the late 70’s, early 80’s. Got a bit grueling at times.

Finally came back from a foundrycustomer, where I was supervising a refractory lining job, and have had some time to check out the, new to me, 1990.
First of all, it plays very nice. The neck is slightly thinner than on my Orville and it is also about 1 kg lighter than the Orville (under 4 kg compared to 5 kg). It balances well on a strap (as does the Orville too). It looks very good, I like the lighter burst on this one. There are very few scratches and everything works as it is supposed to work.
Except…
The neck angle is too shallow (as V poined out, this can be an issue with these early ones) so I cannot lower the action anymore. Now it is about 2,5 mm on the E, I can play it without a problem, but I would like to be able to adjust just a little lower. So I just ordered a Hipshot, that should cure this problem. Also one of the studs has lifted some mm, seems stable though, so I fix that too when I get the Hipshot.
The sound is not bad, with maybe a little more bite than I remember my 2012 having, but compared to the Orville…. Hmm…The Orville is much louder and more aggressive, with a more middy sound. The Gibson has more high end, and also seems to have more low end, and an over all more even sound across the board. Have not opened the picups jet to check what they are, will do that when I change the bridge.
In all, I’m pleased with the 1990, and when I get the Hipshot, it will be a very good, comfortable and good sounding player, for not too much money, I think. But will it replace my Orville…? Don’t know jet, but time will tell..

I'm really curious on the pickups and will await your inspection of them, since you mention an overall lower output I'm thinking they're based on '76 components, it will be interesting to see. I'm surprised you can't get a nice low action with the shallow pitch neck - how is it's relief?

Here's the bridge on mine, I have a nice low action set up on it - the late Mike Lull could work wonders!

Ok, I'm going to confess, I like some ABBA once in a while. They had such a unique sound that still evokes fond memories of days gone by. Their vocals were at times eerie cool. Chuck, you went up in my estimation! And I think you were about ready to do some serious bootie shakin'. Maybe that happened after the clip stopped?

I'll confess that I pretty much don't. I appreciate the talent. My 90 year old Dad, on the other hand, loves them. Watches all their videos, knows all about them. I'm guessing it's because of the two girls more than anything.

Angry piano? Don't know what type of bass, (possibly a Ric) and it sounds double-tracked with one flat and the other running through a super-gnarly flanger ... love this song and bass sound.

OK, so now I know where the lake got its name. Spent a few days in Barrie with some folks I met during our hotel gig on Miami Beach. They had a boat at a marina near Orillia.

I can honestly say that I don't miss my Rapidographs, not for moment. They were the bane of my existence in design school. Airbrushing is fun, masking not so much! Still holds true in the world of model trains.....

Well, not everyone.

I have yet to like any winner of the Eurovision song contest. The songs seem to represent (to me) the worst, most forgettable, pop shlock.

But the contest did introduce me to Fire Saga who excelled in both song writing and stage performance...

Well our drummer crashed his motorcycle last week, ( broken shoulder, collar bone, ribs & punctured lung ) so we are missing a drummer for a few months.
Struggled to get a stand-in for the next gig in a few weeks, so myself and the guitarist decided to change our set to an acoustic led one.
Him on acoustic, me on bass and our usual twin lead vocals/harmonies.
Decided that I'll be using the Thunderbird with minimal effects DI'd straight through the PA ( although may take a combo if more 'oomph' is needed ).
It'll be a different kind of gig for me, but looking forward to it.
Anyone else used a 'Bird' on an acoustic type gig before?

Yep, although it's usually the upright when there's no drums.
