Yah, I knew of them (I had a friend who worked for a design firm that had one) but such was out of my price range back then. I loved drawing on vellum with a rapidograph pen.

In Miami, '73-'82, the band gigs paid the bills. I had a part-time trucking gig that 'bought the beer'. By '83ish, that flipped, and for the next 23.5 years the trucking paid the bills and the music bought the beer. Still hadda play what the ppl wanted to hear, but we'd f---* with the arrangements to get our musical rocks off.
So. I was playing music 6 nights a week, paying my bills, not busting my @$$ digging ditches or going to school(I was not a good student), meeting and sharing time with some pretty fine women, and enjoying life in general. OK, maybe I wasn't playing exactly what I wanted to play-whatever that might've been at the time-but I was making/playing music that people enjoyed. Very few significant regrets.

Yes. A couple of times when we’ve had no drummer. I can play laid back (including an old school upright sound like Ben E. King’s Stand By Me), or I can drive the song as much as desired.

1219181018-00.jpg I've come to realize that we are neither a 'cover' nor a 'tribute' band(not that there's anything wrong with either).We take recognizable songs and put our own spin on them, whether it's changing key(too high or low), arrangement(we're 2 guitars, bass, and drums-no keys or horns)-or a "girl's song" to fit us. Our 'target' audience is people 55+, so a lotta '60's/'70's material. I genuinely like playing to our crowd, which is kinda weird 'cos I don't particularly like anyone who isn't me.

I ran across this one last night. It sounds odd like there's some overdubbing or something. But love the bass driving the heck out of the amp, speakers and everything in sight. This is what I recall every time I saw them.

kidding aside, some of the finest bass lines (in terms of execution, moving the song, harmonically fitting the song, providing a “hook”, etc.) come that genre imho. thx for the compliment but initially I had to go off the chart at practice tlll I memorized it because as mentioned, it has no “intuitive” definable pattern….
“misfortune bands” is pretty relative……those bands allowed me to pay my rent and raise my little girl at the time (many moons ago)….

yeah cut my teeth in that circuit, at 15 I was pulling about 250 bucks a week with my HS teacher’s quartet while still a sophomore….
