I have one of the SS limited release ones. It's my only Gibson, and I like everything about it except the finish. Plays great, sounds like what TBird should sound like, about a perfect neck.

If I could only keep two of the basses I own it'd be the TBird and the Starfire.


The one I was asking about just didn't look right, hence my coming here to ask people who have much more knowledge about them than I. I was thinking it might be something made for the Japan market but haven't heard of them doing that like a Fender does. No biggie, but anything that is a SS and unusual piques my interest.

Some shots of my newly repaired bicentennial Thunderbird. This guitar had its headstock broken off several times over the past 40 years - the last time being when it was shipped to me from New York. The repair work was done by Beardsell Guitars in Winnipeg, where Allan did a phenomenal job - the work is almost undetectable. I recommend him highly to anyone in need of a good luthier.

That's looking great, indeed beautiful work by your luthier - Two of mine were in similar shape, I'm always in awe of the skill some have in restoring/repairing basses, kudos to your guy!

perfect. thanks! i've been thinking about modding my p-bass and giving it two T-bass pickups as the P/J thing doesn't do it for me anymore. i've had my p-bass since high school and want to keep it mostly orginal and i wanted to know if the T-bass pickup would cover up the existing route in the pickguard for the P so i cold keep the original pickguard.
