Thunderbird Club

Yeah, it was on eBay a moment ago but I just put in and it instantly accepted my offer of $700. So I guess I'm getting a Greco bird. Anyone want to buy a P-bass?

Congratulations on Greco! and no, thank you on the P

Me neither. I don't think I could tell somebody "I play cookie monster metal" with a straight face.

Do they call it that because of the vocals?
It's not actually called "cookie monster metal." The vocals of some styles of death metal are called "cookie monster vocals" though. Personally can't stand it.

Some of it is fairly horrifying though, in a purely horror-show, existential way. They do a "Metal Zone" show on the local pop-garbage-rock station Saturday nights here in RI, I listen to it sometimes on the way home from gigs. There are Cookie Metal bands on often, and once in a while it sounds like a meat grinder-become-living-flesh. Pretty ghastly.

Did I mention horrifying? I'm still stuck on that word I guess, lol. It's starting to taper off now... :)

It's not really my genre, but it's definitely dramatic, sometimes interesting and even artful on occasion. I generally prefer stuff like Cactus, Flaming Groovies, Small Faces, etc. The metal thing is an odd venture here and there... and always nothing like what we played at the gig earlier that night!

I use Schaller locks on all my basses. However, I rarely use the Schaller supplied screw since it's always smaller than the stock strap button screw and will eventually pull out or bend. I just drill out the hole on the Schaller button to fit the stock guitar screw shaft and then chuck the shaft end of my stock screw into my hand drill and grind the head down a bit so the stock screw head fits into the Schaller button recess. You can use a grinding stone or sandpaper if you want but I find that just a quick touch of the head against a concrete patio is enough to reduce the head diameter adequately.

I also find that many of my leather straps are too thick for the nut to get a good bite of threads on the Schaller saddle. To solve that problem I take the strap out back onto the concrete patio along with a ball peen hammer and give the leather a few hard whacks where the strap lock will be mounted. This temporarily compresses the leather enough to get at least three good threads through the nut. Also remember it's critical to position the open end of the Schaller saddle such that it faces straight up while the bass is in the playing position. Once you get everything where you want it just put a drop of clear fingernail polish on the threads protruding from the nut, that will keep it from ever getting loose on its own.
This is proof that great mimds think alike. This is the exact same way I did mine(didnt know about the finger nail polish trick). All my basses have Schallers except the Ibanez, it still jas the original triangular buttons and they seem to work well.

I call it that because I personally think it sounds ridiculous. When ten different bands can sound exactly the same and they all sound like the Cookie Monster having an aneurism, I'll take pot shots at them. I like hard rock and acid rock and other types of metal but find the whole Cookie Monster thing a bit silly.
Every time I hear it, this is all I can picture...

My mate & his son listen to stuff and try to get on to it. As soon as the 'Devil voice' stuff starts I turn it off. To their amusement.

Is that the Cookie Monster stuff?

I have no idea. I've never heard of anyone within the metal scene referring to a vocal style as "devil voice." Partly because given the mythology of devils and temptation and so forth, I would assume that what that would sound like would differ vastly between different people.

Cannibal Corpse is probably the most well known of the "cookie monster vocals" style death metal bands. Not my thing at all.

It probably is. If you want to ruin it for them just start calling it Cookie Monster Metal. Once they get that image in their head they won't be able to shake it and it quickly looses it's coolness. Works every time and even on other topics.

A while back my wife informed me she found a nice designer handbag she wanted. She was really pumped up about it and made the mistake of showing me the $1500 price tag and picture of the bag...

I said it looked pretty cool but seemed kinda pricey for a bag to store her bowling ball in. Completely ruined it for her, now every time she sees one the only thing she can think of is Bowling Balls. :smug:

And for the ladies on this thread, it works both ways. I found a really sweet Fodera Yin Yang bass. My wife took one look at the $6000 price and then looked at the design on the front of the bass...

And said, don't you think that's a bit expensive for a bass made in China. Yep, ruined it for me!
I passed on the purchase. :(

"Devil voice" is just what I call it. :)
They sound (to me) like they think they are an excorcism movie or some such.

Leave me out of that.
