Thunderbird Club

If you'd like to be on the club's roster just let me know, I'd be very happy to add you.
Ok, let‘s go for it then :)

Aaalright… almost everybody recommends to not change the finish. I think I’ll leave it as it is for now. It does not look terrible and the pic was taken under daylight conditions. The brown tone looks warmer with artificial light.

Does anybody know of Epi Classic Pros which are actually (bursted) tobacco brown and not overly red? I have seen very good looking vintage pros and standard IVs, but the classic pros all seem to be pretty reddish.

dig their tone i guess? what hand is more affected?
Yes sir I do. They sound great on a VP. I'm not bothered by any roughness (cheese grater effect), but after playing a while my fretting fingers (tips) become sore and kind of ache. Right hand to a lesser degree. I notice it more when I'm at home just playing by myself. After about 15 minutes or so I start thinking and being aware of my fingers getting sore. I hate it because they sound really good. Just don't want my fingers to rot off!

Can't help, but the VP tobacco bursts not only sound fantastic, they look fantastic as well. But not as good as the Gibson burst which is outstanding.

Red, if seen within the visual gestalt of a 'brown-burst' T-bird, is subtle at best. My '64 II is about as 'original' as it gets and there is no red involved, at least overtly. Here's a few pics under different lighting situations to illustrate the (brown-burst) finish. There may be some from this period that were slightly different, but to my eyes this is the "standard" look/finish on a gen1 T-bird. As an overview - mahogany has a "red" cast naturally.

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers, and happy Friday. I hope all of you are staying well and looking forward to the weekend. I am hoping for a bit of advice on putting together a solo. I am to play two songs for a sort of recital that the music school I take lessons from is putting on. Essentially ad hoc bands made up of students. I am playing Soulshine, the Government Mule version, and Steal My Kisses by Ben Harper. It is the outro/bass solo in Steal my Kisses that I am working on. I believe it is essentially built around a G major pentatonic scale. I have the verse, chorus and bridge, but not the solo. Seems to sound quite random. If anyone has played this song, or has advice on soloing, I would appreciate your thoughts. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Very beautiful indeed!

What I mean with red is this:

I love the wood grain and burst effect.
But this is not mahogany red, this is overdone. Nice in its own right. But what I want is a TB where the body looks like on the images you shared :)

LOL - that’s it! From now on, every Amazon purchase I review with an attached picture will somehow have a thunderbird in it.
We all need to start doing this, flood the interwebs with the bird!

Can’t speak for the red Eppi, but the grain on that 2015 is rockin! Is that the same 2015 you posted before that you were considering doing a refin on? If so, don’t touch it, the grain looks beautiful.

Yes - that is an exaggerated hue. Original T-birds were never that colour.

I agree - there is the more common 'stripy' mahogany and the less stripy (more like vintage) mahogany. (trans) Red is for ES/SG/EB-O's - not for T-birds. A few are out there, but I've yet to see one that looks good.
