Thunderbird Club

" if I want to go there?" Don't be silly. Of course I want to go there.

One of the email newsletters I get (No Treble) posted the new 2016 Gibson EB Bass T. Timely, considering our recent discussion of Gibson basses. Two things I noted: they seen to finally be making use of owning Tobias, and it's got the headstock that the Thunderbirds should have. Dang, I dislike the cheese knife shape!

To me the body shape is kinda boring, honestly.

Must've done something strange to my last post. Newbie error...

Anyway, those LaBella flats (FL760s) I threw on my new Blackbird, once I finally got my Yamaha PB-1 dialed in properly, soundrd pretty darned good the other night. I think I'm gonna let go of the Tapewounds for now, save em for a whim down the road.

Think I'm get a set for my EB -3 instead. And a Model One for it.

Pic after I get the fretboard of the 'Bird shot matte black.

I got plans, see...

Last night at The Showdown/Downtown SF (the Tenderloin) with SMF

Thanks to everyone 'liking' my pic of last nights gig - I learned earlier today that I've been 86'd from this (brother) trio. (don't ask…) Life goes on - (how often do bands collapse for anyone who's been in bands for a while…

Bummer! You will come into something, perhaps, that's a better fit... enjoy the adventure.

Honestly, it can happen at any time and for what turn out to be really stupid reasons in retrospect. That's not every time, obviously. Was talking to a friend of mine today who hadnt heard from his singer in a very long time, and had no idea why the dude won't return calls. Bands are people and people can be flat out goofy sometimes.

For sure CB - as much as I'm disappointed I'm happy that I had the experience and from it realize how I love rocking-out in that way. Everything happens for a reason and growth happens as a result of ones commitment to moving forward.

They, (Gibson) at least up to this point want to keep everything with the name on the headstock U.S. made if for no other reason than the "Brand's" cachet as an American made guitar - If you're from outside North America U.S. produced goods of all kinds do seem to be valued differently than they do domestically.

Absolutely.... To many Europeans the "Made in USA" stamp doesn't always carry the same value as it seems to be doing in the US.... ;)

The pair of GK Neo 212ii I bought recently have now had their first big hit out with the Fusion 550. ( I have gigged that head with a 4 Ohm GK Neo 410 for the last three years or so and never had cause to complain)
But OMG- the GK Neo 212ii s are so loud and huge sounding with the Les Paul Double Cut and my Chinabuckered TBird!! The Double Cut is one great bass BTW. It doesn't cut through the mix- it absolutely smashes through (some compressor adjustment coming up).
My first reaction is that the GK Neo 410 is tighter but the pair of 212s is just amazing. I think it also makes a difference having some speakers at chest level as well!
I don't think I've seen a pic of your double cut. It's been nearly a year since I purchased a bass, I'm getting GAS. Quick, flip us a pic!

Have either of you tried the Ernie Ball cobalt flats? I've just put them on my new bird, first time I've tried flats (always used Rotosound 66s) apparently brighter tan stainless flats. I'm not convinced the sound is for me, they could well be coming off soon
Yes. They are on the '91. I like 'em, but I like flats.

Count,
Maybe what we're seeing with the new Gibson EB Bass T is a new naming convention.

Gibson = USA made
EB = Electric Bass
T = Tobias body derivative

Who knows, they might come out with a EB Bass S for a vintage SG derivative or a bass F for Fender derivative (like the last EB was). At the end of the day, the fact that they came out with anything in the bass line up is encouraging. It gives me hope that they will soon release another Thunderbird! Maybe even with similar color options as the Firebird line.
Well, I can dream at least.:thumbsup:

I would assume the Cobalt Flats are brighter than Chrome Flats, is that true?

I tried Cobalt Rounds when they first came out. That was the fastest string tryout I ever did. I couldn't rip them off fast enough.

Hated the sound, coarse feel with excessive finger noise and the wear they put on my brass nut after only 30 minutes of use (left a pile of brass filings on the headstock at the nut). Within an hour after installing them I ripped them off. I did eventually find a use for them. I now use them as a nut file to fine tune the action on my basses, works great for that.

It's hard for me to say whether Cobalt flats or Chromes are brighter. They are just a little different, and the Chromes are on a fretted bass with Chinabuckers. The Chromes are on the fretless 'Bird with Alumatones. So, I could answer your question, but it probably wouldn't be a very accurate answer. I would just call them different. Describing sounds with words makes my brain melt anyway.

Aaaaah, these strings have a raspberry bouquet, blossoming into a full, expansive sound with hints of oak and saffon, leading to a satisfying finish...

It looks all the new offerings for 2017 have a 'T' in the name.
Don't know what it signifies.
