Good thread, but too spread out. A central database would be great.

Yah, I just scanned it and a lot of dead photo's also. I imagine string manufacturers update/change details of their products over the years so it would be an exhaustive task to hunt down & document every possible string over the years along with the current varieties. It's too bad the individual manufacturers themselves don't offer such.

An interesting thought...

If there were package(s) worth stealing, perhaps dumping entire loads for several days is worthwhile. You will be fired for dumping the boxes, but it will be assumed that the stolen box will be amoungst them. If the boxes are recovered and the stolen box is not amoungst them, it would be unlikely to be the only one unaccounted for and so assumed that several were recovered from the site by salvagers/scavengers.

Of course, it would have to be a very valuable package to make such an enterprise cost effective. Does anyone ship blocks of cocaine by FedEx?
That’s very clever. I’m not sure there was that much thought into this dumping exercise. More like “I can’t be bothered delivering this 5hit load of parcels TGIF”

Cobalt flats…. got a different complaint than some of y’all do.

So I have a set that I “ruined” on my former Sting sig Pbass because of the string thru body (shaging hate string thru bodies by the way).

my brand new 1988ish Epiphone power bass is a string thru so I dug the cobalt set out or the bin of misfit strings, and realized how crappy the tuner end silks are. Then I checked my other geetar with them and same situation… shredded silks. I don’t think any other silken string I have have done this.

You’ve got to be ridiculously gentle with them. What bugs me is how damn stiff they are winding them on skinny Thunderbird tuner posts. I just put the set I have on the Goth. I kept thinking I was going to break one as I was winding them (and yes I follow the special installation instructions for them). It’s the third bass they’ve been on and they’ll stay on it ‘til until they die. I’ve had them on the ‘15 and didn’t like them on it. I tried them for a short time on an Ibby I have and they were terrible on it. To be fair, the only strings that make the tone of that Ibby bearable are Power Steels. I last tried Black Beauties on the Goth and never bonded with them. The Cobalt Flats sound grrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaat on the Goth. It’ll be my goto Thunderbird when I want to give my fingers a break from rounds.

Thinking of getting a Dingwall DRoc. Only thing is that I find the strap lock position a little strange. Anyone have one and if so, how's it compared to a traditional bird?

I have a Bird with the strap buttons in a similar position to the D-Roc basses. I didn't think I would like it but decided to give it a shot. It balances very well and doesn't get in the way like I thought it would.

Does it still do the ‘tilt forward’ thing with the button there?
