Thunderbird Club

It's a pretty humble place! We had a metal roof put on, thus the cost. Houses are really pricey here and we won't lose money on it should we ever sell and move out to Pt. Angeles. Conversely, if we stay I won't have to deal with getting another roof ever. But, I'm still jonesing for a '64 II!
Well congratulations on the new roof! Kinda like new tires on the car, but it does give one a bit of satisfaction. I'm sure your location in part accounts for the cost. There are some advantages to the purgatory of Upstate NY. ;)

I paid a little too much for the white '76. But it was such a one off (only white with a '76 serial #, but also stamped second). No white '76s were made. It was also in fantastic condition. It's heavy but sounds great. But not '64 great. My wife wanted to get it as Christmas present. She found it and even talked the guy down $500. So there's no way I could have said "No thanks." I appreciate the work she put into it and I do like it. Sounds great with Rotos (currently my fav for it) and nice with TIs and Fender flats.

What strings are you using on the '66? Looks like flats from Louisville!

D'Addario EXL 160BT nickel round-wounds - since April/'14 :bassist:

It's a very nice bass and rare so worth it. Way back when I lived in Chicago, I had a chance to buy a white '65 IV from what was then the small shop called Chicago Music Exchange. It was within reach financially, just didn't have an expendable income at that time. :) (not like I have one now!)

It was really time to replace the old one, it had lasted 29 years, the new one holds snow well and the sound of rain falling on it at night is quite nice to fall asleep to.

Can we suggest a Greco '77 II as a possible surrogate?

The Greco is certainly much more affordable and the pickup intrigues me, the wide nut however is pretty much a deal breaker, though never say never A unbroken 64-65 Thunderbird II is my hearts desire, I've never had one and now is the time. Stop trying to distract me lol. Our roof still had the original cedar shakes and at least two layers of asphalt shingles. It needed to be done and we were the lucky ones to do it. Looks nice though.

You only live once, why not buy both? :D

One might think you are trying to deplete my war chest and remove me as competition from your Thunderbird search ;)

I'll get one but I'm probably going to be a bit slower about finding one - you first!
You wouldn't regret owning a Greco.

When things are better it's a short flight up the coast, better yet, have @Chucky Stiletti drive his AMX up and you can ride shotgun - The coast of Oregon and Washington will make for a great road trip.

Welcome mat is out!
Plus, my house is within what I consider reasonable walking distance from Mike &Mike.

Maybe later on the Greco, gotta stay focused! The missus, bless her is in support of the Thunderbird II search, strike while the iron is hot and all that.

Who is Matt? And does he just stand outside all the time to welcome people or only when you are expecting guests?

I am envisioning a documentary! "...two bass-players, two vintage T-birds - one reverse, one non-reverse, one hot AMX - on a road-trip to meet the Thunderbird Queen ... Staring Chucky Milner and Geo Maharis" (Sunday at 6:00/9:00 EST)
