Thunderbird Club

Fantastic Chuck! Geddy and Chris Squire would hope to sound that good! And great playing.

I need a Chuck poster and get rid of the Canadian bass roadie.

(I actually don't have a poster of Scott's bass roadie.)
nonsense...seen this in the background of a couple of your pics...

my (long gone) '66 J through a Sunn Colisseum Lead at the '98 E-mu Systems company picnic.....should have NEVER let that bass go....

Was it an early (Jan-June) '66 dot/bound or later (June-Dec) '66 block/bound? What colour? Pops?

So happy for you! :hyper: The real deal! I for one love the checking - especially on the hs face.

I may pester you for a photo copy of your original PG and TRC, obviously this fellow will need a couple replacements

I'd love to have a Thunderbird II, that's what it is correct? I'm not up on my T-Bird terminology yet. :D

Yes, the II is a single pickup model, give us a little more time and you'll be completely over to the dark side.

Was scrolling through old note drafts i had going on, & stumbled upon what i had for the collective thunderbird idea.

Which got me thinking about it again. & so i'll try to make this easy to pin point certain aspects of it throughout a voting. Quote this post to input your vote (itll help if im notified to keep track xD)

Let the polling begin!

Body style: Traditional, or NR

Body type: flat, or raised mid section

Hardware color: nickel, chrome, black, gold.

Thanks for chiming in :)

checkering looks cool imho…
would you consider this excessive?
View attachment 4542119

Yes - it looks cool! As I said - I very much like the way checking looks. Natural flexing/movement of aged lacquer has a way of creating beautiful filigree. It can be created on a new lacquer finish - MJT des a nice job of it. (BMM J) Then there is craquelure (my finish on a '68 Silvertone Hornet) and (original) on a late '60s Dano 12-string. This is caused by shooting lacquer over a 'false dried' lacquer base colour. (in my case red over black) It becomes this while you watch (pretty cool) and can be accelerated by forced air. (hair-dryer set on 'air' - or a compressor) Depending on how the top coat is sprayed - you will get fine texture or a more open texture. (as the two examples illustrate)

For sure - please do! I did notice the tr cover being rounded out at the top. And judging by where the screw is (centered) makes me think it is a replacement as you can see the screw on mine is near the curve point. Was the hs repaired? Usually when they are all black front & back this is the case. So many '63-'65 II's & IV's have been repaired.

I used a scotch pad to dull the gloss on the neck - I do this on most all my basses.
