Thunderbird Club

My black nylons for your naughty boys.

So far they sound good. Nice and thumpy.

First cover, maybe many will come, but I seriously need to improve my left and right hands a lot :meh:

Nice work! The new bird sounds great. CCR songs are great practice. Pretty easy progressions to memorize so you can concentrate on the rhythm. Fleetwood Mac songs are like that too. I keep my left thumb with light pressure on the middle of the back of the neck. Opens up my hand to more fluid movement. Everyone is different. I use alternating second and third fingers on the right hand with the floating thumb. When it’s time to gallop, it’s four, three, two. I have a hard time alternating all three fingers, it just doesn’t feel natural. YMMV. And I still can’t play worth a damn with a pick.

Don’t know. It looks it’s age, but not horrible. I find it hard to believe that’s the original pickguard. And the case…
The pickguard isn't original. It doesn't have the official cracks in the right places, and it's mentioned in the ad. Seems a little pricey for normal folk. But it looks great. The nut is white. Most are not any longer.

Mine show up Saturday. My concern is if the setup will change drastically (truss rod and intonation adjustments). What did you find?
I got the 105 set and did have to raise the strings one turn, the D 1.5 turns. Neck seems fine for now, but after setting a day or so that may change. That's one thing I like about big Pbass necks. I have only needed to adjust one once since the late 70s. But I don't use cables.

Good morning Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers, I hope everyone is staying well. Just dropping in to say how very much I am enjoying the new NR. I have a couple of questions I am hoping a few might share your thoughts on. I am not familiar with doing set ups, but my instructor raised the pickups a bit, and it did give it a stronger sound with a bit more growl. I have noticed the sides of the pickup covers, where they were raised, have something on them. It looks like adhesive and does not rub off. I am assuming there was no issue with raising the height of the pickups? Any reason there would be an adhesive or residue on the covers? I am thinking maybe rubbing alcohol on a Q tip swab? I attached a picture, but it is not the best.
My other question if anyone knows what the stock strings it has might be? They seem to have a lot of clank to them. I am used to the EB Cobalt Flats on my 2014, or a set GHS balanced nickels on 7ender 5 string jazz. Wondering if the stock strings are stainless steel? Might settle down over time? Or time to start exploring new ideas for this bass.
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Have a great weekend everyone.
Just spitballing here, but you could probably try removing the pickups and trying Goopoff and if needed, followed with some fine metal polish.
As for the stock strings, I assumed they were 45-105 Gibson nickel roundwounds. They stayed on mine for a hot minute before I installed Dunlop Marcus Miller stainless steel Superbrights. I dropped the action down on mine so I didn’t have to adjust pickup height. I don’t know what the adhesive looking stuff might be.

Have I said how much I love mine?

Why is it that black nylons keep coming up?

Its taunting enough that our queen wears them so graciously….

Opaque black is fun for winter time with some little booties....
