Thunderbird Club

I am a huge Jeff Beck fan.

There was a documentary on him I saw perhaps two years ago. Fascinating guy and to his credit is always looking for under-appreciated musicians he can take on tour. In this case, note Rhonda Smith; fantastic bass player. The show I saw with her, she had several bass solos and killed it.

The dude must have little hearing left; he doesn't use in ears and the stage is LOUD. We were few rows back (10-15) and all the sound we heard was coming from stage, not the PA.

Are you familiar with Beckola? (of course you are ) Ron Wood plays bass on the whole album, he gets a GREAT sound along with really rocking lines.
Wierd, I just went to change the station on SiriusXM but the next song coming was from Beckola.

Did somebody say fretless?

same here….him and Jeff Baxter for me..

Rather than the Strat Jack, if I was to use Fender stuff in a build I’d possibly go for a Tele or Tele Bass control plate. I’ve seen the Tele Bass plate with 3 controls and a bit of chrome / stainless looks cool. Plug through the end or in the 3rd control hole on a VT or VV layout

like this?

My Ric (copy) requires a light touch. If I dig in too much I can bounce the strings off the bridge PU. I’ve thought about lowering it, but I’m trying to develop a more “Geddy” style right hand technique and the present setup works well as a limiter.
If my real Ric sounded like yours I might have kept it! Sounded great in that clip you posted a while back.

I know a good many are animals lovers here and can relate. Treasure them while you can. Sad day here. We lost our roughly 14 yr old rescued Maltipoo early this morning. He had been going down in recent months and needed to be rushed to the animal hospital several times, but always bounced back, kind of. Had to run him across town again about 1AM Sat morning but he eventually succumbed. Just sux. I thought he would live a long time being a little dog and very active and figured my black lab would go first. No more after Grady. Many years of great joy, but the end is just horrible.

Please don't comment. I didn't post for that reason. Non-animal lovers just don't understand. I just know there are a lot of dog and animal lovers who have been down this painful road before, as we have, and can relate.

Gotta be honest.
The 2 Epi Bird necks are pretty solid. they move a little but not twisted, like me.
They could both use a little fret filing.

As far as 4 bolts go.
Seems like my luck was with all my old Fenders.
Those necks did not budge.

This statement will be complete heresy.
I love Birds.

But I’m a Fender guy.
I’m sure that’s grounds for banishment.
I hear ya. I never even recall having to adjust a Pbass neck for the seasons. Set it and forget it. Had some Js that were pretty delicate we might say and needed a fair amount of attention.

I always loved swamp buggy racing, but I never see it on TV anymore...
Used to go to the stock car racing at a local track when we were kids - highschool kids buying junkers to fix up and race...
I’ve only been to a small oval. Pretty unexciting other than the noise and fumes; it’s almost impossible to pass unless someone really screws up (or you screw them up and get ejected). The demolition derby was lots more fun. I would like to see a proper NASCAR stock car race.

I respect that.

I never had to get used to my first Thunderbird. Had a nice Ric for a few years and I never did get used to it. Always wanted one, but just never clicked with it. I sure wanted to. They are just flat out awesome looking and unique sounding. They look like a work of art as much as any popular instrument.
Other than never owning a Ric to try to get used to, all of this.

Racing is fun...unless you pretend you are in Days of Thunder...rubbin' is racin' gets you tossed most places.

Now you're scaring me. :roflmao:

I admit if I've been playing nothing but Thunderbirds for weeks, then pick up something else I can end up in an unintended place on occasion.

My first bass was a Japanese POS I bought for twenty five bucks when I was a kid. When I bought my first good bass, a new Fender P bass with flats, covers etc. I had to RAISE the action I was so used to the first bass, it really was a nice playing bass though, 1970 sunburst/tort. Also my first few amps were really under powered so I ended up becoming a maniac. I still like to dig in but I haven't destroyed any end of neck frets for a while now.
