Thunderbird Club

Are these Audio Kitchen heads made mostly for studio/recording? The product page for the head states: "It addresses the perennial goal of producers and engineers – how to get the bass to sit further forward in the mix." Unless I misinterpreted the specs page, it is a 60 lb head that puts out 120W: Invalid Link Removed. Could something that size, with 7 tubes, only put out that little power? Wouldn't it be hard to gig it at a venue larger than a small pub? Or is the idea that you run these heads into a much larger power amp? Otherwise, it seems like a guitarist (or two) using their [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] guitar amp head (30 watts), into a 2 X 12 cab, might be louder on stage, no? And then add a drummer. Yet, they also offer a 8 X 10 bass cabinet.

Depends on the settings, venue and FOH, I guess...

I used to have a Marshall 100 watt SuperBass valve amp + 2 matching 4x12" cabinets, and that rig was deafening loud as a backline just about everywhere I used it, and would often have to downscale to just one cab...

Looked great, though... ;)

The apparent low wattage may not be as meaningful as it seems. Tube heads can be a good deal louder than ss heads; also if an amp is run into an efficient cab you can get very loud and present with less power- think Bill Fitzmaurice. And maybe that refined eq idea makes paower less of an issue?
I'm no tech oriented dude, but done right, wattage is just another element of a successful rig.

But yeah, then there's that lawn getting trampled all over...

The hipster thing strikes me as a little presumptuous, a little too "special" and in-your-face artsy to go unnoticed. The look conjures up a ruggedness that runs as deep as that beard, and a kind of poseury that I find obnoxious. Toughness as a fashion statement, and wearing thoughtfulness and intelligence as if it were an expensive hat... It's like any other way of trying to purchase your cred from a boutique, then trying to live your life as if that's always just been you.

But I've been guilty too. I always say it's taken me 55 years to get this far. Doesn't seem very far some days, seems like several lifetimes on others.

Gimme an old acoustic head any day.

And here I am trying to be diplomatic! Lol.

I'm waiting for the Base Ignorance model. No player adjustment allowed, so no knobs. We know what's good for your 'sense of power and precision.'

Here's the 'Bird with the Broken Wings'. Arrived Thursday, lots of packing!

Crude!

Neck is unbroken with a slight crack in the headstock running thru the E tuner hole but not the face veneer.

I'll remove wood on the lines and graft extensions.

Anyone have a VINTAGE USA chrome three point bridge?

The rebuild thread is here, gonna be a while before I can get to work on it.

LindemanS is almost like an after dinner wine. Never had a beer where the flavor was so bad you had to put a piece of fruit in it to make it palatable so I've never drank a Corona.

But I've been told that one should always have a fufu drink when playing a short scale TBird. I think it was either Emily Post or Dear Abby and I'd never argue with either of them.

Did anyone say Lindemann? ;)

If I want an after dinner wine I'll drink an after dinner wine, not some beer posing as wine! But then again, I'm not really a huge beer fan and I'm about as far from a beer snob as you can get. If I don't down the mug in four raises to my mouth or less then it wasn't worth drinking, if it's good and cold I'll drink it, room temperature not so much - and please hold the raspberries and the little umbrella for someone else.

Back on topic - I got tied up and didn't bother to bid on the eBay SS TBird. But the $1300 asking price (plus shipping bringing to nearly $1400) seemed about $400 or $500 too high. Still have my eyes open for something in the Bird family but it has to be unique and at a fair market price. Found a couple of Lulls that fit the bill but if I'm gonna spend over $2000 I'd be more inclined to contact "Get off my Lawn" Cataldo to commission something really unique.

From your lips to the ears of the Universe. I've said this exact same thing on several occasions.
