Thunderbird Club

V-V @ 100%

Once I find the correct pup balance (with a screwdriver) I leave it alone, stop fiddling with it, find something else to play with...
I am with Kat on this one. The 2015 T-bird has volume for each pickup, a tone control, plus coil-tapping switches for each pup. It is almost too much for my little pea(bass) brain to contemplate, after many years of just two knobs (volume and tone @ 11 = "one more than 10").

That Dingwall looks interesting!
Never played fanned frets before but I'd suspect it's difficult to go back and forth between that and normal frets. I'd also be a bit concerned that the Dingwall won't have the hefty sound of the bird due to what I assume are single coils all down near the bridge. Also, what control layout could that be with three pups and only three non stacked knobs - V/V/V?

I'd grab that Dingwall in a heartbeat of I had a job. fanned frets take about 28 seconds to get used to, at least for me. If I can adjust anybody csn.

My stage basses are both set up with a master volume and everything is adjusted to run all up on the bass, so the little bit of tweaking is at the amp. On one occasion I put a very slight boost on the bass control onboard preamp when we played a very deep room with a tall stage. Otherwise the only time I'm using the controls is to turn off the volume between songs.

I had a medium scale Burns Marquee, the Korean made one, and it had 3 single coil pups. Damn thing sounded pretty hefty... you could dial up a good wallop with it. Might not be a problem... but, I don't know. I can't imagine a Tbird without some heft to it, it's sort of a tradition, isn't it?

Well, there are certainly Birds that are not so hefty, I guess. So, never mind. :)

Anyone see this yet?? Holy Cow!View attachment 971742

One of the better looking T-Bird knockoffs I've seen. Really dig the shape of the headstock, really attractive IMO. It's just enough different from the Gibson/Epi shape yet reminds one of the original and doesn't detract from the body shape. Well done.

Funny old world isn't it? IMO it's completely the opposite - looks like it has microcephaly.

Anther angle of the D-Bird.

(Not to be confused with a D-Bag)

And check out the strap locks positions

I like the looks of the Dingwall but never having heard one I'd still assume it to be not as bottom end capable as the Bird.
The Burns pups were in very different locations vs the Dingwall pups. I'd just expect the Dingwall to not have as deep a tone as a TBird and to be more mid and top end focused, but I could be all wrong, my Warwick Thumb bass has two single coils down near the bridge and it has plenty of bottom end.

That's my kinda strap button placement... Almost the same...
I was just looking at that. Very interesting. Looks like the bridge end of the strap would have a tendency to take the finish off the top edge of the strap cutout cup. Also looks like it would be difficult to fit normal thick and wide leather bass straps to the neck end without them bunching up between the back of the neck and the pin.

I kinda also wonder how much meat that bridge end pin is screwed into? Doesn't look like much.
This is really one Bird I'd have to try before I buy, but it does look interesting.

Edit: looks like there's more than one version of the DBird out there or possibly some preproduction photos floating around.

My strap button placement is a little different... but like the D-Bird. The top button is flat on the back of the body near the neck, so no bunching into the back of the neck.
The rear button is way up into the belly curve, up at the bottom of the curve as it begins that taper up the body edge, if you follow. For me this pulls the bass a little to the right, so my left hand reach is less far. Left Hand doesn't like the long reach, he gets tingly in the palm.

Thought I was the only one who did this.

Few Bird updates on my end:

upload_2016-10-18_19-40-23.png

Shot the neck with two coats of red (got the paint on my lunch break), & now i'm just letting it dry til tomorrow night where i'll fill some minor gaps, tape & tear designs & spray paint in black Hopefully leaving a perfect red black balance overall on the back. Also the body is almost prepped for paint, only a few bondo fills waiting to dry til tomorrow as well & i can shoot it in red too. Still debating if i'm doing the same thing tape & tear or if i go some other route. All will come over the week :) Next week i resume work on the Tigerbird build that will be ready for mid november if i calculate correctly.

I am pretty much i. The same camp as many of you on the Dingwall.

On other pages, i have been checking out different effect pedals. I would like to get a couple but nothing outrageous. I'' looking at getting:

1) Big Muff Pii
2) pog

I really like some of the Darkglass stuff but wow are they $$$. Although their amp!!!! I might like that.
