Thunderbird Club

I’m not a spitter, but when I fly I do chew gum. Fortunately I was warned ahead of time about the fines associated with gum chewing in that country.

In Spanish disculpe is 'excuse me', and escupe is 'spit', my accent is so bad sometimes my inlaws thought I was telling someone to spit the other day.

There’s something from the 70’s/80’s I don’t miss:vomit:

Even in Lima smoking is prohibited in all public places indoors. Not many people here smoke anyway. I was a smoker when I was a kid, started on Lucky straights and they remain the only cigarette that ever tempts me, but they're so rare now it's not a problem.
I had the obligatory cigarette burns under my Fender basses on the headstock, that was VERY common back then and shows how many basses and guitars have been restored or at least touched up.
I once started a thread called something like "What could Fender do to make their relics more authentic", among the choices besides G strings hanging off the side of the neck, etc. was cigarette burns on the headstock, a few years later it was offered on a relic . The thread got shut down.

You used up the allotted tunings allowed. Tune less frequently and it will last longer. Besides, for us hacks, tuning is over-rated.
I would be willing to wager that not only are the electronic guts of those two identical, but that they are also made in the same factory...
I tried tuning by ear, but it’s really difficult to fit those large bass tuning keys in your ear, the smaller banjo style are much easier.

I believe same penalty in Malaysia. Same stark red warning on the entry card.
Correct

I could just join the fretless folk, and then I'd never need to tune again!;)
LOL - fretless tuning is easy, all open strings. But I’d imagine Intonation could get pretty crazy if you don’t have a lined fretless.

Was the flushing before or after the shorts change?
Both!

I still remember waking up the morning after a gig and finding the clothes I had worn smelled really bad from the cigarette smoke in the venue. And thinking “what is that stuff doing to my lungs?”

Early surf legends - The Marketts
It’s either Pohlman or Gordon, I can’t ever keep it straight.

Surfers Stomp sounds like your basic '50s R&R where as Out of Limits starts sounding more 'surf', or more specifically a cross between surf and spy. The two are inextricably linked by the time period (late '50s-early '60s) of "spy" themed everything, all riffing off the Cold War between Russia and the US.

No

I can't find any filled holes, it is MINT and flawless, and strangely enough another on with case went up for sale today, $400, but shows signs of use, it also has the front jack, so maybe not so rare. Here is the neck plate on mine:

So sorry gang, just looked closer at the Epiphone Thunderbird, it IS bolt on, the backside body wings fooled me, I'll plug it in later....

Not 100% true, but getting true-er every day.....

"Newsom signed a bill to ban the sale of most flavored tobacco, including menthol cigarettes"
"Smoking is prohibited in all government and private workplaces, public schools, restaurants, bars, casinos/gaming establishments (tribal establishments exempt), retail stores, recreational/cultural facilities and childcare facilities. E-cigarettes are included in the state's clean indoor air law."

But what I wrote had lots of hyperbole & sarcasm with it, neither of which translate well on the internet. :)

Granted, but regulations become necessary when libertarian corporate greed creates a product that harms people in order to profit. E-cigarettes were targeted at kids with all the candy flavors regardless of whatever bs they try to frame it as. I support Newsom in his bill banning it.

By way of information, the penalty for international drug trafficking (heroin and perhaps others) in Singapore is death by firing squad.

Here in Lima everything is legal in small quantities, for example you can possess up to two grams of coke, coca tea is sold in supermarkets and leaves are readily available at all open markets, even opiates are legal in small quantities, everything is. But they are very strict with drug traffickers, and you would not want to end up in a Peruvian prison. If you get picked up for anything and the the cops find drugs on you they will sometimes say you have over the legal limit and it takes a nice big bribe to get out of it.
Those days are long gone for me but I do drink some nice home made tea every day.
The funny thing is that we have much less of a drug problem here than in countries that put the hammer down on you. I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for most of that stuff, it's not visible, the coke would be easy though obviously and I've heard it only costs a few bucks if that, for a gram here.

for sure - especially considering the way airport people 'handle' cargo. :blackeye:

I've brought basses, (even an SVT head a few times), back and forth to Lima for twenty years now and only had two problems, two 4001s's disappeared for a week, (went to Chile by mistake) and American customs broke the locks on an almost new case. But as far as the airlines breaking them I've had good luck. I bring them on the cabins when possible but it's usually not, especially with a big case like the new Gibsons have. I always fly American.

Tried to use mate in Cusco to help with the lack of O2...not sure it really did much. Maybe I needed better leaves :woot:
