Thunderbird Club

I've brought basses, (even an SVT head a few times), back and forth to Lima for twenty years now and only had two problems, two 4001s's disappeared for a week, (went to Chile by mistake) and American customs broke the locks on an almost new case. But as far as the airlines breaking them I've had good luck. I bring them on the cabins when possible but it's usually not especially with a big case like the new Gibsons have. I always fly American.

I don't fly much to begin with, and the last time I flew with a bass was many years ago. I flew once with my '63 II in tit's OHSC. Those cases are big, open cavities with too much dead space - you could almost stack two basses in it. So I had some thick foam pads top and bottom, and bolted in a leather strap across the neck support. When I got to the other side, the strap was ripped in two, and luckily the bass was ok.

Tried to use mate in Cusco to help with the lack of O2...not sure it really did much. Maybe I needed better leaves :woot:

When I first started drinking it I didn't notice anything either, it's kind of subtle except you can get speedy if you drink too much.
The first time I realized what it did was when my wife brought me to a cafe called Sofa Cafe and told me they had great Coca Tea (Mate de Coca) so I drank some and it was a lousy grey day, not cold but just not a nice day, kind of damp, we were sitting outside on the second floor of a mall at the cafe. I was looking at the grey sky thinking "I love it here" I want to move here!" All of a sudden I realized it was the tea.

This happened to a bass I had shipped to me from Arizona a few years ago and I had warned the seller to be careful with how he protected the headstock. I wasn't in the US when it arrived so I couldn't do anything to the carrier, I'm not sure if it flew or came by truck though.
1970 Gibson EB3-L, I still haven't been able to get it fixed due to time constraints and Covid when I'm there. I have a luthier who's known to be good with them waiting though. One time he got Covid, the other time I did.
At least it's a nice clean break and everything's there.

Granted, but regulations become necessary when libertarian corporate greed creates a product that harms people in order to profit. E-cigarettes were targeted at kids with all the candy flavors regardless of whatever bs they try to frame it as. I support Newsom in his bill banning it.

What we see is holes in laws as a result of lawmakers' inability to see the future.

In making products that are "bad for you" attractive to minors, I question whether it should be illegal to produce them, although I certainly think it is immoral, because the government can't be the arbiter of morality. I support freedom in all forms including the right of an adult to choose what they put into their body (and the accompanying responsibility for the result of those choices).

But parents need to protect their children. I don't think parents should be outsourcing the raising and protection of their children to the state by expecting laws and regulations to be a broad shield. But having said that, ID laws around purchasing a wide variety of products is a reasonable intervention on the part of the state.

Now where do I find a black pickguard?
Congrats Thump. That is quite the score! If someone else hasn’t posted the source for the black guards by the time I’ve caught up, I’ll try to find the link. They were scarce for awhile once the pandemic hit, but I recall someone noted they’re available again.
