Ive been working on a 4-string fender-bird/Thunderbird project for a few months, it has a maple neck with black block inlays and a reverse fender headstock, black hardware, etc, i just don't know what to do about the paint, i thought about stains and natural finishes but the wood is just too ugly looking for my taste. anyone have any opinions of what might look good on this bass? thanks in advance.

Hi.
Ever since I saw the e-bay listing for the Leon Wilkeson Thunderbird from the RCB era, I knew that when I eventually start building instruments again, THAT'LL be the paint scheme on one.

WOW! I am amazed! I actually got to play this bass when I was a kid(19-20 years old). I have only seen a couple of pictures of this since. Do you have anymore information on it or what happened to it? Leon was an incredibly nice guy. I had a chance to be over at his home through a mutual aquaintance and he took the time to show me all of his basses. I became a huge T-bird fan from then on. He got tickled over the fact that I knew what a "longhorn" was; He had just been given a Hondo copy of the Danolectro model. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Moonshine
