Thunderfunk 550b on the way...

I had actually tried the AI with a TrueBlue EQ but it just didn't do it for me. I had both of them and did some A/Bing and actually I think the AI is slightly warmer than the TF. If I was playing one style of music in a perfect room at moderate levels I might prefer the AI but for clubs, church, parties, outside festivals playing a variety of music with different basses the TF suits me better. I had an Eden WT550 before the AI and found it got lost in the mix at loud gigs but it's still the best sounding amp in my living room;) I'm currently using an EPI 110UL/112UL stack but will soon be replacing the 110UL with another 112UL. I haven't talked to Dave since I got mine used from someone locally but the original owner told me that he was told by Dave that the Tube/SS switch should only be engaged BEFORE the amp is turned on.

I felt the same way with my AI Focus.
Great amp. Light & loud, but lacking in the EQ dept in a major way.
But it does sound stinkin' great.
The problem is though, I borrowed a TF from KJung and took it on a gig.
At home, I really didn't get worked up about it. Sounded great, but not enough to make me want to switch from my AI.
Well, on the gig it crushed the AI.
Sold the AI and secured a TF (should be here in a week or so). :hyper:

yes, It was better than the eden wt550. especially when using "the switch" notes were clearer, more defined. one setting the notes were more "fuzzy" kinda like the eden, which can be good for some music. its nice to sharpen the sound. lighter than eden.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm wondering if I should keep the eden? :bawl: no, no I'll keep it....STOP THE MADNESS!!!

If you know me, you know I'm a *long time TFB420 advocate.*
I ran thru *tons* of gear trying to find something that would do electric and DB both excceptionally well. I was really quite happy with my wt800B.

Until I played the TFB420;)

Now, having said that, I took my '72P, wt800B and Schro 410 to work last week, and was really quite happy with the end result. Running the Eden enhance at about 50%, everything else flat except a slight sub bass bump, slight bump at 100hz. It was really, really nice. The eden has a tad bit more warmth and "pillow-y tube-ness to it" that the TFB doesn't quite do.

They're both great products with very similar layout and slightly different flavors.

I'm glad I don't have to choose to keep just one!

I've done something very similar. I have used the preamp section of my TFB into my Crown MA 2402 and into an EA cxl-112/nl-210 stack. Felt like I could crush anything in my way. Kinda felt drunk on my own power. :bassist: I used to use my iamp 800 like this quite a bit, as I didn't care for its internal power section. Unfortunately that Macrotech is just way too much weight to lug around on a regular basis.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! :D

You will SERIOUSLY dig this amp... it may not seem like anything other than a really nice amp in practice at home, but when you gig with it, and really make use of the switch and especially the timbre knob... watch out... it'll be awesome.

I am really excited about this!

Unfortunately i don't think its going to make it here by friday... i have a gig in a big old ballroom kinda room, solid floors but low roof. the band sets up in the middle of the room so the sound is always bad, especially the bass. (the nightcat for any australians in melbourne who read this - come to my gig :p) its a big room so it has to be loud, even with pa support, and i never have enough power or eq with my little but ever faithful GK. I think the Thunderfunk will be perfect for that room. and hopefully, everything else i'm doing:D

EDIT: Its on its way!!!:cool:

Reading this thread makes me want a TFB-550B.

I thought I was over amp GAS because I have the rig I always wanted. Then I read things like this and remember Brad's thread when he first got his Naias/Bag End/AMP BH420 rig.

I've never been so excited with a rig that I would need to start a thread like that one, even with my current rig.

So what's the ultimate small, low, and loud cabinet set up with a Thunderfunk?
