Mr Dave; the timbre control is especially usefull for big muddy boomy rooms like that. For me and my sound (on electric) I'd set enhance at half, sub bass +2, bass at 100hz+2, and timbre +2.
Bard: TFB's seem to pair especially nicely with Scroeder medium cabs. I've used mine with a 1210R for about 2(?) years now, and many is the sound man/guitar player/drummer/musician in the audience who has laughed watching me carry it into big venues, and come and asked me *** was that after the show.

If you talk to Dave, he'd probably recommend an Accugroove Tri-115L and/or a Tri-112L. I've had the 112L and really liked it quite a bit. I've heard the 115 is every bit as nice... maybe nicer... depending on your tonal taste. Also, if you wanna' buy both at once, I think Dave and Mark still have an arrangement where you can get some sort of special pricing on the head + cab(s).Bard2dbone said:

Unfortunately i don't think its going to make it here by friday... i have a gig in a big old ballroom kinda room, solid floors but low roof. the band sets up in the middle of the room so the sound is always bad, especially the bass. (the nightcat for any australians in melbourne who read this - come to my gig) its a big room so it has to be loud, even with pa support, and i never have enough power or eq with my little but ever faithful GK. I think the Thunderfunk will be perfect for that room. and hopefully, everything else i'm doing

I know that Melbourne is a large city, but do you happen to know a sax player by the name of Andrew Volmer? He's from there but he's out abroad at the moment. I've been working with him here in OKC for the past six or seven months. Probably not, but thought I'd ask...

+1!!!! That cab wasn't my total cup of tea (the 112L was, tho!), but by FAR the loudest 210 I have EVER heard (and I have a PAIR of NL 210's... which I do love, BTW... sound fantastic with my TFB).Thunderfunk said:

I did a funny trad jazz gig and a did a production with him once as well, hes a good player, and a fun guy too! say hi to him for me. I can't believe that what a funny coincidence.: cool:

Got my Thunderfunk today!
Plugged it into my LabSystems 212 with my Sadowsky UV Metro. (labsystems are australian built cabs - traditional style cab, heavy and the horn is a bit harsh) I was suprised how much the Tfunk is like my old GK! More like the GK than the Eden wt550 IMHO (of course). It got much much louder. Really loud. Really good punch. It does have a 'solid state' sound to the upper mids and treble, more, click and snap than the more crystal treble responce of the eden. I've always like the tone and punch of the GK but now i have 4 bands of parametric to shape with, the enhance and timbre controls and also way more volume. It is light and compact for the power! Noticed a little difference with the Tube/SS switch but this difference should become more noticable after some gigs.
Then i took it to small rehearsal at a friends house, played a slow greasy funk chart and some standards. This time using my CIJ 62jazz reissue and my Labsystems 210. Again, great punchy tone, enhance up a little, bass up 2 notches and the timbre back a little. Easy.
Also got to my local bass-shop where they had an Epi ul310 that was a special order to australia. very quick and sharp tone. The cab was up on another cab unfortunately, not on the ground which wasn't really a fair test. I'm still gassing for the ul410 after this tryout. I am finding the upper mids a little 'clanky' and harsh at home and in the small rehearsals but i've got to sit down and nut out the parametric, so i think i can dial this down...
I'll also report back after my gigs tomorrow night - first a 2 set gig in a high school hall - 1 set 10 piece funk and bigband swing, 1 set jazz quintet. Then the second gig is 3 sets of loud funky blues gig in a big open room with the band setup in the middle of the dance floor... Should be fun!!!

Very cool. I always describe the sound of the TF as a 'refined, boutique GK type tone'.
Those upper mids sound really good in a gig situation, so don't work too hard to get those out yet! Also, very slight adjustments of the Timbre control and the enhance control (which is a much nicer, more subtle circuit than the Eden enhance IMO) can go a long way, along with setting the switch in the SS mode to make the high end a little more 'airy and crisp'.
+1 on your Eden comments. In A/Bing the WT550 with the Thunderfunk550, the Eden does sound a little 'sweeter' when played solo due to the more open low end and warmer treble response of the tube in the pre. However, I find these difference translate to a more penetrating punch and cut through for the TF on the gig.

I always felt when i tried the eden on gigs i just didn't have enough punch and the treble detail was lost when i was playing fingerstyle. Felt like i had to dig in too hard. I'm really looking forward to give the Thunderfunk a good workout with the 10piece tomorrow! +1 on your enhance comments, scoops the mids but doesn't suck out the punch like the eden enhance.
Couple of things though while i think of them. When i've turned the amp off the 'Tube' and 'Mute' lights stay on for a few minutes - even after removing the kettle plug. and the amp had a little more background noise than i was expecting - not bad, just i thought it would be a little quieter...

My 550a model is ultra quiet though, so not sure about the background noise. I actually have a 550b on the way, and will compare the noise between both of them. However, TF's are known for very, very quiet operation. You might want to check with Dave on that.

It's like a jet engine powering down.....My TFB550B is dead quite though. Even the fan runs pretty much in stealth mode. If you check your bass, all cableling and the A/C circuit and it's still a problem, I'd give D. Funk a call or e-mail. He'll fix you up. You don't hear about many problems with the TFunk amps but I had a problem with the first 550B I purchased. Before the sun set that day, Dave had built up another unit, shipped it and e-mailed me the tracking number. Customer service second to none!
