Thunderfunk Amp club!

I remember the days when mr. Funk said he was committed to the solid state design, claiming that it was his choice for absolute tone and reliability. I red that statement somewhere, maybe even on the Thunderfunk site.

The tube hybrid came, and without doubt it does elicit my curiosity. I'm quite fond on the value of the previous engineering choices Mr. Funk made, so I'm very tempted by his newest design. Thunderfunk, as a brand, has always built solid state amps as far as I know, and this move towards the tubes world has many implications.
Myself, I'm usually quite happy with solid state designs for bass (and tube ones for guitar), but I have great hopes on these new amps...
much more informations and reviews needed!

Hey T-Funkers... I'm checking back in. Long history with many AMP BH420s, and a TFB 550B that have come and gone. Around this past Christmas, I acquired a TFB 800. REAL DEAL.

I really like the 800 a lot better than the 550B I used to have. Bottom end is so much nicer, and I always thought the 550B had a bit of a honk or something in the mid to uper-mid range that was baked in, and I didn't really care for. The 800 sound much smoother and more open to me.

I am having a lot of fun with the EQ. Kind of came up with my own version of the DB750/1 setting based on some of the recommendations here, and what I hear from my TH500. Been able to dial in some very cool old vintage fender sounds too. Ran some pedals thru the FX Loop 1 on the last gig. Worked really great for my octave pedal, but envelope filter and distortion sound better in front of the amp.

I sure like my Aguilar TH500, but man the Thunderfunk just has something that the TH doesn't. It's just that heft and richness to the notes. I'm a happy camper.

Here's a bad pic (taken mid show) from my gig this past Friday...

Hey T-Funk owners... Question... my Tfunk (pictured above) has been making popping sounds. Once powered up, it just every once in a while makes a pop. Sometimes a little pop, sometimes a bigger pop. Nothing crazy, but it's doing it. Not really looking to ship this back to Dave. Before I run it to a local guy, any suggestions on what might be going on?

Cool, and thanks. Kind of what I figured. Really struggling with sending it back to Dave. Just don't want to pack and ship! As Dave says, the amp is designed so you can get one repaired anywhere in the world! Really want to use it on a gig this Friday! Might have to take another amp.

T-funk owners... finally got my amp to a shop -- see popping sound post above --

The amp tech wrote back and said he found a bad solder joint on the capacitor board. -- "and an un-soldered wire (no evidence it was EVER soldered) at the output jack connection." --- Anyone know what that is about?

My normal amp place would not even look at the amp. They do tube amps, and said they would not work on SS stuff.

That sounds rather minor (which is a good thing).
It would be nice if someone with an 800 could pop the cover and check for said wire.

If you can't get anyone in a reasonable amount of time to help out, I believe I would call Dave and see if he could identify the loose wire.

What color is the wire and is the other end connected to something?

Not sure. I have never actually looked inside the amp... the amp guy is checking it out an going to look into it more. I sent him Dave's info if he wants to get in touch. Was kind of hoping someone would get on here and say I have the same wire, no big deal.

Well, I hope he can figure it out. I'm sure if he calls Dave, he'll be more than happy to help him out.

If you don't have a resolution in a couple of days, just let me know, I'll be glad to open up the 750 and see what I can find.

And, if you need me to look at mine, see if you can find out the color of the wire, if it is attached on the other end, and which output it was near (1/4 or speakon).

Yep, you are right. I forgot about that. I remember reading about it and I think Dave mentioned it last time we talked. You could probably do some searching and find more info on it. I'll check the 550B out when I get a chance.

I was a TFB user, long ago. Haven't checked in here in quite a while.
600/800 watts a 4/2 ohms...$1900...
Things have changed a little.

They have changed a lot! But I will say that the Tfunk is still more versatile than 95+% of heads out there, just as loud as most heads rated for more wattage and sounds better than most of them too (IMHO). :-)
