Thunderfunk or Eden ?

I have a Thunderfunk TFB550. I think it's a great amp. Very easy to dial in a good sound and that's only if you need to dial in or out anything at all, cuts through my band's mix very well. I can always hear every note (right and wrong ones).

Never tried an Eden but I'm sure they are great too. I'm guessing that the TFB750 would smoke the Eden 550 if only for having 50% more power. Maybe not a real lot louder but there's nothing like having plenty of headroom. 750Watts is plenty of headroom IMO.

The Thunderfunk 750A is the best amplifier I have ever played through. I recently switched to a tube amp and its clear I will own another TFunk some day - I really miss it already. Big, fat, clean, clear, smooth, punchy and musical with a big kick in the low end and sweet, singing highs. Some folks say the high end it attenuated a bit and perhaps for hi-fi slappers it is, but I found it to be capable of plenty with a good tweetered cab. Sounds best to me flat, with the exception of enhance and timbre (for me, both around 10:00). I thought it beat out the Eden in every way...

I also like the 750A WAY better than the 550B - had a chance to A\B them and while sonically similar, the TFB750A was wider and more open\refined by comparison. No volume difference between the two at the same settings as far as I can figure. The fan was also quieter (little things make the difference sometimes!)

Can't say enough good things about that amp!

i like both, and own/have owned both.

the eden amp has a furry thick woolly sound, and its eq is one of my favs to use and find a great sound. and the enhance knob is great for DI recording. adds a nice space and breath to a track. you'd be surprised. and it hits 2 ohms, stable. also, the limiting on the eden is more subtle than the thunderfunk, which has a tendency to pump a bit too much for my liking.

the thunderfunk line is just an incredible take on the tried and true acoustic/swr sound. much cleaner sounding, maybe even faster, but definitely thick and punchy. cant really ask for more. the timbre knob on the TFB amps are just too easy to find that sound you want, and along with the enhance knob, you'll barely touch the eq, which is actually quite handy, tho, not quite as dramatic as the eden amp.

and keep an eye out, cause there are few thunderfunk 550s floating on the emporium for great prices, too.

I have an Eden WT400 so I know the Eden quiet well. What I am trying to figure out is wether, for replacing my Aguilar DB 750 (getting to heavy to carry around at my age) I should go the WT 550 or the TFB 750 A road (tried the AG 500, did not work for me).

What I like about the DB 750 as compared to the Eden is the incredible deep end, the creamy sound and the infinite headroom (and that does not say that the Eden is weak on any of these points)

What I like less is the EQ of the Aguilar but in this area both competitors seem to be quiet strong

Unless you need to run at 2ohms, the WT550 won't give you much, if anything over your WT400 (which many of the Eden guys decribe as the best sounding head Eden ever made).

In no way would the WT550 be a replacement for the DB750, and again, would be redundant with your WT400 for the most part (similar volume and tone at 4ohms).

I have not played the TF750, but I understand it has a much fuller, deeper low end than the rather tight and somewhat attenuated TF550. I would think (assuming the 750 at least keeps some of the tone of the TF550 that I'm very familiar with), that would be a pretty good 2 space moderate weight replacement option for the massive DB750.

Another head to consider is the new Carvin B2000.... just over 10 pounds, a tube in the pre, plenty of EQ, and not much money. I can't speak to reliability (there have been a few problems, but the head has just been released and Carvin has a good record of high reliability after a couple months of production shake-down), but it is reported to be every bit as powerful and punchy as the wonderful B1500 (which is EVERY bit as powerful as the DB750).

IMO!


Edit: If you just need a 'louder' WT400, consider a WT800b or c, which can be bridged into 4ohms for some wumpin' wattage. That would be the 'Eden' replacement for the DB750, although of course, the tone would be much different.

As much as I like the Eden sound, they (I've tried the wt550 and wt800 and smaller heads, have not used the 1205 or their power amp) simply cannot reproduce the same girth and heft of the DB750. Also in my very limited experience the ThunderFunk can't either. IMO not even the B1500 can give the same kind of weight sonically (and physical weight too, unfortunately).

I can't think of anything with significant weight reduction that can give you the same tone and feel of the DB750. If I have to choose between the Eden and ThunderFunk to replace the DB750, I think I will go for Eden. Eden has that bloom in the note that's also in the Aguilar, ThunderFunk OTH is all clean and control to my ear.

This is the answer I was afraid of.

Conclusion I keep Wt 400 and my DB 750 for the moment
