while waking up on a warm glowing morning, you'll walk though the bush, you'll hear a sound. You'll look up and notice a red-beaked-FAIL-hawk racing towards you.
I'm sorry, you fail, again.
No U.
Aside from some of username's and fassa's posts, this has to be the dumbest thing i've ever seen posted.
Don't shoot it until you try it.
If you're just thinking about the walking, you're doing it wrong.

This.
VA doesn't have many views like that, but it does come close when you look out over the Blue Ridge Mountains and the contours get fainter and fainter into the blue.
I like titanium sporks
I own one of these, as a matter of fact.
Good luck thunder! I myself want to start hiking this summer. (and our mountains are better than your mountains)
Thanks!

My extended plans include doing the Continental Divide Trail, which happens to go through the rockies, so I'll get some altitude.
Pay no heed to the haters. This plan is a big WIN in my book. I do hate you for being able to get that much time off, though.
Well, the alternative is bumming around trying to get a job or classes.

I figure doing something constructive is my best bet. Being a student has it's negatives is being poor and having you life consumed with classes, but having summers & stuff off.
I've done parts of the trail in NY and NJ, would love to do the whole thing one day. Or at least a significant chunk for more than a weekend.
It's great. I did a ten day hike in '06 that was 106 in Shenandoah National Park (actually the whole of the trail in the park and then some). It was with some members of my Boy Scout Troop. It was pretty awesome.
meh, I like civilization. I can do without wiping myself with leaves...
I use toilet paper myself... Why? did you wipe with the poison ivy?
What kinda rig are you taking?
A Gregory Palisade pack, MSR Hubba tent, Kely Lightyear Sleeping bag, Therm-A-Rest 3/4 length pad, JetBoil or possibly and alcohol stove, and I think Garmont boots. The full list in excess of 100 total items.
Have you ever done any extensive hiking/backpacking before?
-Mike
Yeah. I've been hiking with my parents since I was 3, and been backpacking with my dad since '02, I think. I did about a dozen weekend trips with my Boy Scout troop on the AT in Shenandoah National Park, and then did the full stretch of trail in SNP, and then some, 106 miles total. That was the ultimate acid test of the gear I'll be taking on this hike. This hike is also the precursor to me doing the FULL AT, something I'll probably do in '011.
