baalroo said:exactly. it's not so much a "scam" as it is a "gimmick" a "rip off" and a lot of "blowing smoke up your rear ends." If this was a worthwhile national act that would be a beneficial show for you to be on, you wouldn't need to sell tickets because the national act's draw would sustain the show (and their DRAW is the reason a small band would want on the show in the first place, otherwise what's the point?).
if you can get on the bill and don't have to sell the tickets, then go that route... sell what you can and don't sweat it. if you're awesome, and the national act has a good following that you think will relate to your music, it won't matter WHEN you go on... just being on the stage in front of those folks will do the trick. It's just that the sum of the parts here don't seem to add up and that's usually a good sign that the end result will be less than satisfactory.
again, why bother selling tickets for someone else? book your own shows and sell your own tickets. Is there no DIY spirit left up in KC? Lastly, link me up to some music, I book DIY/all-ages type shows down here in Wichita and if you got something I can hear (even just a practice recording or something) I can help you get on a show down here if you'd like(we split all the money evenly between bands with NO gimmicky BS). We can also chat about how to do what we do here, but up there by PM if you like. Heck, maybe we could work out some show trades.
Just PMed ya
And idk about everyone else, but my band has the DIY attitude. We do everything ourselves, but I think my guitarist just gets really excited about stuff and doesn't communicate great, so I've recently taken over as manager. Crazy guitarists
