Ticket Selling technique

But back to the original question, utilizing any mailing lists you have set up could really help. Usually electronic mailing lists these days. Hope you have been taking email addresses at shows and getting people on facebook or band websites. This is a time that those resources can help sell a ticked or two, or hopefully more.

Thanks!
I'm gonna try...basically,, I'm going to be a ticket pimp

If the promoter has any big shows going on between now and your show, go to them and try to move tickets that way. Hit some open mics in your area, print out some quarter sheet flyers and hand them out to 1/2 interested people.

Find a happy medium where your friends/fans know what/when/where you are playing without being over the top. You don't want to lose friends/fans from breathing down their neck to go to one show.

I'm not gonna bug em, if they can't or don't wanna...I'll move on.

1/4 sheets...good idea

He's not much of a promoter if you're the one doing the promoting. I'd call that pay to play and agree that you should be prepared to be shafted. Real promoters book the gig with you and all you do is show up and play...

My band is starting to hit it big, especially around here. If we sell 40 $8 tickets before the 25th, a promoter said he'd put us in a spot on a national show. We can't miss this opportunity.

Help me sell? Ideas?

Were a metal band in Kansas City, btw.

Do you know anything about this promoter? What's his history and track record? References?

Really, all it takes to get a spot on a national show is selling 40 tickets? What is this national show - has he told you anything about it yet?

Any details on the $8 ticket show? How many bands, what's the venue, what's your take?

It sounds like a classic pay-to-play gig from a wannabe promoter.

40 tickets for 8$? just buy them yourself if getting on a national show is worth $320 to you

^ here. not to diss you but your not making it big anywhere this way and if you were you would be the headliner. Promoters do this everywhere to get local bands to pay the headliners and give you nothing or next to it. If you sell the tics (all) what is your cut? You might get a little or maybe nothing and will be paying the national. some promoters make you responsible for all the tics you get and if you don't sell them will make you pay them for what is not sold. Don't get into that trap.

It's at the aftershock bar, we've played there twice before, I'm guessing about 6 bands? He saw us play and liked what he saw.

family friends... set up a meet up with your fans in a really central location.

selling tickets online hasn't worked for me so far. fans preferred to meet up vs paying w credit card.

whether or not this promoter is honest... if he isn't, get someone with a camera to film part of your show and you have youtube content showing you can bring a crowd. That should make it worth it at least.
