ticketed for speeding...

50+?! Zoinks.

During a race, I had been dropped by the lead pack of 8 riders over a big climb. The following descent (8-9%) was 4 lanes wide with almost zero traffic. There were a few mild curves, but I was able to use both lanes in my direction. The final stretch to the valley floor is dead straight - I hit 58mph that day sitting all the way down on my top tube. I caught the lead group in the valley - only to get dropped again on the next climb. I ended up finishing the 70 mile stage in 9th place.

Oh man, that's amazing. Hopefully I start doing that stuff in a year or two. My job hours changed this summer, which is forcing me to face the fact that I need to find another job or I'll never be able to race. :bawl:

Meh. I may as well be the first to call horse$***.

Grab a measuring tape, mark off 15 feet, and imagine that stuck in the air. Thats how high the drop was. now imagine landing on a hill with a grade of about 60*. That was my landing. To clear the gap I hit the jump around 20km/h. I happened to keep going and get onto the road.

You roadracers are used to high speeds and all that, As A downhill rider I like to have 203mm disks to keep me from these speeds haha.

Actually I was not quibbling over the speed so much as the ticket aspect for doing 5 Km/H over, but others here seem to support the idea that this does, indeed happen.

That said, I'd still like to see a scan of said ticket. :ninja: :D

15 foot drop:eek: damn man, i wish i could do that stuff, hows the suspension on that bike? I'm always kinda scared to do those type of things for fear of my balls getting hit by the frame.

Once I get a car i'm thinking of buying a nice downhill or mountain bikes as i do not have the resources to do crap like that over in my neighborhood.

still 15 foot!!! jeese I'm a speed freak and have hit those speeds going downhill on a BMX, but never a drop that big.

My speed would have been greatly reduced if I had to contend with rocks, trees, and sticking a landing. I've spent plenty of time on a mountian bike, too. 35mph is moving pretty good on dirt with knobby tires. I don't mind going fast, but I've always preferred to be in contact with the ground.

Apparently, since I past him on a road, I had to obey all rules of the road, even though I'dda wrecked myself if i used any brakes. So now I got a 40$ ticket for speeding. I'll happliy pay, and frame the ticket, because thats just badass. Though, I am kinda perplexed why the cop did it, ahwell, 40$ and no points. Wicked.

I don't know why so many bicyclists don't understand this. When you're on a bike, you are a VEHICLE. Just like a car or truck. You obey the same speed laws, stop signs, lights, and requirements to signal.

The fact that many bike riders are butts and refuse to do these things doesn't mean they are correct. When I'm on a bike, I do ALL of them. And I never forget that cars are bigger than me.

That said, a 5 MPH over bust is a chicken thing for the cop to do. It doesn't sit well with me.

OTOH, can you really say you were riding safely and in total control at that speed? You said yourself that if you had used the brakes you would have wrecked. IMO that means you were riding unsafely, were beyond your limits of control, and may be lucky you didn't get a ticket for reckless driving.

Is there anything about riding at high speeds only wearing spandex and a helmet on a bike made of graphite that does sound safe? :D
