Wide ties give me a fit. I can nail the narrower ones first time every time. Wore a black tie with a white shirt and a pretty high end Fedora at my last gig. Kind of going for the Blues Brothers look. I got hit on..........twice.

That bass needs some tortI have a clip on fish tie, but then I suppose that wouldn't work for a job interview. It is good when Mrs. slobake is bugging to wear a tie. I just pull out that little number and all talk of tie wearing disapearrs.
Seriously though, good luck with you job hunting. I pray you get the job that is perfect for your situation right now.

What is with ties? I was gussying myself up for a job interview today, going with the rich guy look (blazer, gold buttons; white shirt; gray pants; red tie), and I could not for the life of me get my red tie to tie properly! I tied the bastard 6 times, and each time, it was either too long or too short! So, I angrily removed the red tie, grabbed my blue/silver tie, and *boom* first try, it was perfect. A cocaine-addled businessman couldn't have done it better! A handsome full Windsor, in a silky blue, accentuated over the antique white of my shirt. Simply smashing, if I must say so.
So, what gives? Why does my red tie in particular (not my blue one, nor my green one, nor my stars-and-stripes one) give me so much trouble?
a tie is a decorative noose, and requirements to wear them by society is sexism that no one questions. if you elect to wear them great, just please don’t impose them on anyone else

I wore a tie the other night when I took the wife out to dinner. Shirt, jeans and tie.I have a clip on fish tie, but then I suppose that wouldn't work for a job interview. Once I have a tie tied correctly, I never untie it. When I slip it off, I pull the big loop right over my head. All my ties are on a hanger, and I just put 'em on, cinch 'em up and out the door I go.View attachment 3237479
Not sure I get all the hate. Some lives need them, some don't. Most dress clothes are less comfortable than sweats and a t shirt.

This is not good for your ties. If you want them to last, untie them and hang them up after wearing.
I want to dispel this myth. That is fine for my ties, and they will last just fine.![]()
My father taught me to tie a full Windsor at around 9 years of age. Sometime in my late thirties I switched to a half Windsor.
technically, you did not dispel anything. You just offered a contrary opinion. [/pedantry]
Half Windsor is the way to go. Been using it since I was a teen. But now I am into bowties which are a completely different animal. My favourite is conservative red and blue stripes on the front and skulls on the back.
This is a real gut splitter. No, it is a myth. A very popular myth, that was once #7 on the all time myth charts, but lost out to the Vimisectidual Creation Story, which has since also lost favor.
In the universe, there was once a tie. The tie was left tied, and woe came unto all who suffered the pedantry of pedagogues. The visigoths played the unigoths, and there was a seven inning stretch. But the woe came and went, ebbing and flowing throughout all eternity, until one day, a dragon ate the sun, at which point the woe was pretty much a foregone conclusion. This went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on through seven ages of man, until the storyteller got tired of typing. It was then, and only then, that the severed spleen of he horicierous beast became cognizant, and learned to drive a stick shift.
