Warwick thumb 5 has pretty tight spacing

Ibanez SRs are the first thing that came to mind. The BTB33 also has relatively tight spacing and a 33" scale, which is fantastic to play.

I sold a Warwick Thumb 5 that sounded great because the space was too tight.

Stingray 5 and Ray35 basses are tight. They were just a tad wider at the nut than my ‘58 RI P bass.

Some (not all) of the late 80s/early 90s Yamaha BB series five-strings are based on a four-string neck width and have somewhere around 16-17 mm string spacing IIRC.
Plus they are GREAT basses.

I converted my Ibanez SRC6 to a five string, an SRC5 if you will. I replaced the nut with a Zero Glide nut which required that I cut/file the five string slots. And then I had to find a five string bass bridge with tight enough spacing. That was not easy. I ended up using JD Moon cast zinc single string bass bridges from Amazon. But they are 15.5 mm wide and I needed a 13.5 mm string spacing so I had to mill the bridge pieces down to make them narrow enough. In the end they and the modified bass work marvelously! Yeah, that is a fair bit of work but it only took about a week of my free time and the result is a really nice short scale bass. Ibanez really should make them that way! But if you can find a suitable bridge for the spacing that you need it would be a lot less work.

I always feel strange going to my p bass after it.

The Dean Euro's are tight but getting harder to find. Super high quality at a good price. Same factory as the Spector Rebop, but half the price since it says "Dean" on the head stock.

Sorry to resurrect an older thread, but I thought I'd chime in on this one.

As mentioned earlier. The Ibanez RB885 is a 15mm string spaced monster. I bought mine brand new when it was released. It is the first 5 string bass that Ibanez made. And yes, I still have it.....

It's about to be up for sale since I recently acquired a Bongo 5HH...
